‘It’s Triggering’- Serena Williams Names Daughter Olympia’s One Habit That She Doesn’t Like

“…just hanging out with my girls and spending time with them and just showing up every day is an achievement, and it’s not easy,” Serena once said, making an honest admission about her experience of being a mother of two. Serena has embraced after saying goodbye to the racket sport, back in 2022, following a two-decade career gilded with 23 majors. She might arguably be the greatest of all time in the sport that she played, but nothing beats her zeal for having the new title: Greatest of All Time at motherhood. That’s what she wants to be, by her own admission. And she’s expressed her feelings, time and again, on how much she’s “obsessed” with her little ones. But what about the chemistry between the two siblings? Do Adira and Olympia get along well? Mama Williams has made a confession about it.

For the uninitiated, Serena was one of the world’s 100 most influential people named by TIME magazine earlier this week. The 43-year-old former was quite naturally happy about it. “I’ve given my whole life to tennis, and I would gladly give another two years if I had time,” she told TIME in an interview, dated April 16.

Serena further opened up about her life post-retirement as well, especially about the struggles of parenthood after giving birth to two daughters. While it’s a blessing, she can’t deny having moments of dilemma. One where she finds it tough to decide which of the two daughters she should give her attention to.

Having Adira (in 2023) after Olympia (in 2017) has really changed Serena’s life. “I try to be less on baby, but she’s just so cute,” she said, talking about Adira. The little one is just a year old, while Olympia has turned 7. “How do you not give her (Adira) all the attention in the world? Oh my God. It’s so hard,” Serena added.

When she goes out to pick up Olympia from school, it’s not easy for her to leave Adira alone. That’s not it. Even during the squabbles between the sisters, Serena ends up siding with Adira. “When Olympia tells Adira no, I’m just like, ‘Excuse me, you have to share’ because it’s triggering,” she revealed. But hey, Mama Williams loves Olympia with all her heart as well, as much as she loves Olympia.

Probably that’s the reason why Williams always tries to spend quality time with her elder daughter as often as possible. Remember when she took Olympia for the NY Date Nights in New York City last year in August? Afterwards, she even took the 7-year-old to a delicious dessert at The Donut Pub. And guess what? The mother-daughter duo went on a date again this year. In fact, it was just last month!

Serving mother-daughter goals, Serena Williams and Olympia have fun together

Last month, Serena Williams took to her Instagram to share moments from a special place. In a string of stories with brief clips and photos, she showcased how she tried a Tasting Menu at a high-end restaurant. She was accompanied by Olympia as well. In one of the short clips, Williams could be heard saying, “Okay, so we’re at a tasting and we’re going to have lots of fun things to try to decide what to narrow it down to.”

Then, taking a sip of champagne, she added, “And most important part of a tasting, obviously. Yes, please.” The mother and daughter enjoyed the food.

“First course is a beautiful salad with pomegranate…” Serena further revealed. For this dinner date, she wore a one-shoulder silk dress, paired with Nike sneakers. But what about the little one? Well, Olympia looked adorable in an elegant sleeveless outfit with a cute bow.

On a side note, Williams also confessed to having learned an essential dining etiquette from this experience. Sharing the newfound information about using utensils, she said, “You always want to start from the outside in, which I didn’t know because I was a tennis player, and then I learned, okay, just start with the outside and work your way in.”

Whether it’s Adira or Olympia, Serena knows how to keep the little ones happy. Isn’t she a perfect mother, pretty much like how she was a perfect tennis player?
