Amid Concerns Over Dodgers’ Ticket Prices, MLB Commissioner Issues Intriguing ‘Los Angeles Team’ Advice to Fans

5 min read

This time, the most honest yet unexpected advice for the Dodgerheads didn’t come from a player, a top MLB analyst, or an insider. In fact, a solution to your most expensive problem comes from the top of Major League Baseball itself? Commissioner Rob Manfred has been keeping tabs on the growing aggravation over high-priced tickets at Dodger Stadium. And we don’t want to gatekeep much!

Rob Manfred has proposed a solution for all the fans struggling with high ticket prices at Dodger Stadium. And guess what? The solution just requires you to shift your stance a little bit.

He suggested, “One of the leaders in terms of thinking about affordability has been the other Los Angeles team.” According to Manfred, since the Dodgers tickets seem beyond the grasp of many fans, he has suggested that fans could consider the cost-effective alternative of attending a Los Angeles Angels game instead.

Here’s what Rob Manfred proposed as a solution to expensive tickets for Dodgers games.

It’s rare to witness a league commissioner hinting at fans to attend a different franchise’s game for a better deal. Considering baseball as the USA’s last great affordable sport, and fans are likely to develop a lifelong habit of watching the game, it might not be possible for a whole family to spend hundreds of dollars to experience a ballpark day.

So, if you want to pass your time in the stadium, well, the Angels might be a fine alternative for LA people.

Although the suggestion might not be radical for all. Along with affordability come multiple challenges. First and foremost, it’s a supply-demand mismatch. Fans are more inclined towards attending the World Series champs compared to the Angels, who haven’t made the playoffs since 2014. Not to mention, if the fans switch to the Angels, it’s logistically challenging, as well. Angel Stadium, Anaheim, is around 30-40 miles from LA. Inaccessible for many fans.

Plus, Dodger Stadium has been a bucket list destination for many. And now, if anything, it’s been the center of the debate around its high-priced tickets. If you hear it from Andy Dolich, the one who has actively run marketing operations for the teams in all the major North American sports leagues, she simply has one thing to say. “That inability to have that family experience is an incredible negative if you’re just going for the green.” She emphasized that it’s not just a venue; it’s a ballpark where the fan base is built for the future.

And the LA Dodgers might not be fitting for all!

Nearly $400 for a ballgame at Dodger Stadium?

Yes, you read that right. $399.68 is a league-high estimated price if you would like to see a game at Dodger Stadium as a family of four. And no, not the best seats. Four average seats that are inclusive of a parking spot, four hot dogs, and four beverages. And the league average? It’s $208 according to sources.

Donald Trump was invited to a sports podcast just two days before he won the presidential election. He added his belief about the overpriced tickets. Trump stated, “The leagues are not taking care of their fans. They really aren’t. They’re making it impossible.” He simply summed up what most of the fans are feeling at this point.

Recently, a poll was conducted with the motive to know if the tickets to sporting events have gotten way too expensive for an average fan. The results reflected that 86% of sports fans agreed on it.  So, it’s probably a FACT for baseball, too!

MLB commissioner Rob Manfred recently had an interview with The Times. During that interview, Manfred tested the notion that baseball tickets have been financially out of reach. Collectively, 71 million tickets were sold the previous year by 30 major league teams. He mentioned that the attendees has increased every year since the COVID-19 pandemic. As per the league, last season, $20 tickets or less were obtainable for 70% of MLB games.

But yeah, it’s not the same for the Dodgers! According to Manfred, “You can’t have it all ways, right? The Dodgers have made a massive financial commitment in terms of players, and they have to run a business that supports that massive financial commitment.” So, yes, kinda agreeing that LAD prices are not THAT affordable. And this season, they don’t have any tickets around their $20 mark.

Well, if you want to experience the game, Manfred has given you the solution! A luxury outing or a ballpark experience of a lifetime – the decision, of course, is on you!
