Colby Covington wasn’t swinging for belts this time, he was swinging for a high score. In a rare moment away from his notorious trash-talking and fiery antics, the former UFC interim welterweight champ took to social media to throw hands with a bouncing ball. His target? A Boxbollen toy. His rival? None other than Conor McGregor.
But the real twist in this social media story? It came not from ‘The Notorious’, but from a fighter who’s never needed legs to throw hands. Enter Zion Clark, an athlete who has defied all the odds to become a trailblazer in MMA. With a simple yet powerful comment, Clark accepted Covington’s challenge. However, this isn’t the first time he has gone head-to-head with the UFC’s elite!
Zion Clark isn’t backing down from Colby Covington’s social media challenge
It all began with Colby Covington putting his reflexes to the test. Wearing a Boxbollen headband, he let the fists fly. The tool consists of a headband with a ball attached to it on an elastic string, which helps athletes sharpen their reflexes and improve their hand-eye coordination and body control.
In the caption for the post on Instagram, ‘Chaos’ wrote, “Tried @Boxbollen for the first time and I have to say, it’s so much fun and exciting! The 5 second challenge was harder than I thought. If you think you can beat my high score, go to @Boxbollen”
The video shows Covington exclaiming, “I’m coming for your high score, Conor.” While he put in an impressive effort, he ended up with a score of 14 hits. Twice. Impressive, yes.
But wiping the sweat from his brow, the polarizing UFC star ended his video with a bold call-out of the Irishman by stating, “Ah, 14, looks like I’m kinda capped out at it, but I gotta get better. I’m coming for you Conor.”
Conor McGregor’s record at ‘Boxbollen’ reportedly stands at 18 hits in 5 seconds, an incredible feat. But before ‘The Notorious’ could respond, someone else stepped in from the shadows. A man who’s made a habit of breaking every barrier that stood before him.
Zion Clark wrote in the comments, “I got one. I’m gonna try to beat your score.” Born with Caudal Regression Syndrome, Clark never had legs. But he never let that stop him from chasing his dreams. The Ohio native has been breaking barriers for years now. And with just a few words under Covington’s video, he threw his own name into the ring.
In a past interview, Clark had revealed that it was Jon Jones who inspired him to become an MMA fighter. And after Jones won his heavyweight debut in dominant fashion against Ciryl Gane, Clark was waiting backstage! In a hilarious and humbling moment, Clark challenged Jones to a push-up contest. The result? A giggling, sweaty Jon Jones accepted defeat. Clark was still going strong as Bones tapped out, smiling, humbled.
So, will he be able to beat Colby Covington as well? Only time will tell, because Zion Clark has made a habit out of defying the odds at every turn! As for ‘Chaos’, he recently made a surprising admission about his future in the UFC.
Covington aims his crosshairs at the “number one streamer” crown
Colby Covington embodied his nickname when he ran into Paddy Pimblett backstage at UFC 314 recently. The two clashed in a war of words where Covington mocked the Liverpool native’s UFC resume, stating, “You’re a bum. You beat guys who are 2-6, remember that.” ‘The Badddy’ fired back by pointing to Covington’s recent string of losses and called him “irrelevant” during a subsequent ESPN interview.
Well, that didn’t exactly sit well with the welterweight star, who then took to YouTube to unleash a profanity-filled tirade against Pimblett. But did Pimblett hit a nerve? After all, Covington seems less focused on fighting these days and more interested in being seen. In fact, he’s found a new arena—live streaming on Kick.
From the UFC Performance Institute to his living room, Covington’s been building an audience steadily, even as there is no news regarding his next fight. And in a surprise twist, he’s now chasing a different title.
During a livestream with internet personality, Neon, ‘Chaos’ confessed, “(I’d rather be) number one streamer because they get paid a little more money, and they don’t have to get hit in the face, so”
A stunning admission from a man who challenged for the UFC gold 3 times and even held the interim belt at one point. But in the end, whether it’s throwing verbal jabs at Paddy Pimblett backstage or swinging at a Boxbollen ball for social media bragging rights, Colby Covington knows how to keep the spotlight firmly on himself.
