Aaron Rodgers was tasked to break a lot of curses when he was brought in as the Jets’ field general in 2023. Whether it was their QB curse or playoff drought, none were broken by Rodgers. Instead, Rodgers left the Jets in a similar position, or even worse, than what he took over two years back. So, of course, there was always going to be a sense of animosity against him. But never did he know a player of his caliber—a future Hall of Famer was going to be treated disrespectfully by the Jets. What their new regime did with the 4-time NFL MVP has led to one of Rodgers’ close friends sending a warning to Aaron Glenn.
After a long hiatus that saw Aaron Rodgers maintaining a low profile since his Jets exit, the 41-year-old finally broke his silence on ESPN’s The Pat McAfee Show. The very first thing he talked about was his controversial conversation with the Jets’ new regime. Rodgers, who is apparently living a secluded life in Malibu away from all the media circus, travelled cross-country hoping to have a grown-up conversation with the Jets. However, what he got in return was 20 seconds and a whole lot of disrespect.
“So we sit down in the office. And I think we’re going to have this long conversation. I’ve flown across the country. And 20 seconds in.” Glenn asked Rodgers, “You sure want to play football?” To which a bamboozled Rodgers replied, “Yeah, I’m interested.” But then Glenn said, as per Rodgers, “We’re going in a different direction at quarterback.” Rodgers was apparently cool with it—he wasn’t shocked at all. However, what made him feel disrespected was how his exit was handled.
“Listen, if they want to move on it’s fine. But shocked because I just flew across country and you could have told me this on the phone if we’re not even going to have a conversation,” Rodgers added. So, after hearing how Glenn dealt with Rodgers, that left him feeling disrespected. His former Packers teammate, WR James Jones, on FS1 didn’t hold back from giving an ultimatum to the new Jets head coach. “You not gonna last long,” Jones claimed, referring to how he made a mockery out of a future Hall of Famer.

Actually, it was way worse than just considering how Rodgers gave a detailed account of the awkward conversation. At one point, both Glenn and Rodgers were saying to each other, “You don’t know me.” This led Rodgers to say that’s why he flew cross-country to have a face-to-face conversation that lasted twenty seconds. Within 15 minutes of his arrival, Rodgers was out of the Jets’ facility. So, you can clearly see Glenn wasn’t a big fan of Rodgers. But at least he could have dealt with the situation more maturely. Maybe that could have made Rodgers not feel disrespected. To be honest, no matter how bad his Jets tenure was, Rodgers is still a shoo-in for the Hall of Fame.
And even if you are a head coach, Rodgers didn’t want to see himself treated that way. While Rodgers and Aaron Glenn’s conversations made headlines this week, the 41-year-old also spoke a bit about his Steelers rumors.
Aaron Rodgers keeps the Steelers waiting with hesitant messages
“I’m in a different phase of my life. I’m 41 years old, I’m in a serious relationship. To make a commitment to a team is a big thing, whether you’re a first-year player or a 20-year vet.” Rodgers, who now lives a quiet life in Malibu, cited personal reasons for his hesitation to commit. With the Steelers still waiting patiently, you don’t have to be a psychologist to decipher that it’s an indirect message to them. Rodgers also went on to add, “I’m open to anything and attached to nothing. So yeah, retirement could still be a possibility. But right now my focus is on my personal life.”
Steelers who have Rodgers as their No.1 target this offseason might have to rethink their strategies if Rodgers continues to prefer his personal life over professional endeavors. He also wanted to clarify that his hesitation to commit is not about money. “I told every single one of the teams, it’s not about the money. I will play for $10M, I don’t care.” A $10M contract for Rodgers would make him the lowest-paid starting QB in the league, other than the rookie contracts.
So, it’s completely upon Rodgers whether he feels ready to come back for another season. Or continue living the life he has built for himself in Malibu. Honestly, only time will tell how this Rodgers saga will end.
