“Fight Each Other”: Amanda Serrano Doesn’t Escape Claressa Shields’ Wrath as Friends Turn Foe

4 min read

“When one of your Role Models is also a friend.” Can you guess who super featherweight champion Amanda Serrano is talking about in this statement? If you said Claressa Shields, you’re absolutely right. Back in 2020, Serrano and Shields shared a strong mutual respect. In fact, Serrano often spoke of Shields as a role model—something she made clear in the tweet.

Alongside the tweet, Serrano had even shared a few pictures of the two of them posing together for the fans. However, as time passed, their friendship turned into animosity because of professional tensions and perceived slights. The most recent example of the same was on full display when Serrano and Shields exchanged words on social media.

You see, Serrano’s promoter has recently signed another big name from the women’s boxing scene, Alycia Baumgardner. ‘The Bomb’ has had a long-standing feud with Shields, which had escalated to fight challenges, but nothing really materialized, mainly because of the sheer weight difference between them.

When Baumgardner signed with MVP, Jake Paul’s right-hand man, Nakisa Bidarian, made it his mission to clarify the path to a potential fight between them. He told reporters that Shields was way too heavy to fight Baumgardner, and Shields needs to come down in weight to make the fight. Shields seems to have felt disrespected by the statement and started attacking MVP.

This prompted ‘The Real Deal’ Serrano to defend her promotion on social media, noting, “Sincerely @MostVpromotions & @alyciambaum aren’t looking to disrespect anyone.” She also added that Bidarian had made a fight offer, and it wasn’t meant as a disrespect to Shields. Despite the explanation, Shields didn’t calm down.

Shields unleashed her full wrath on Serrano while responding to the tweet. “You, MVP & Alycia love throwing rocks & hiding y’all hands,” she wrote back. She accused Bidarian of making false statements against her and promised to expose the truth. “Tried to give you & promote you off my hard work & name,” Shields added.

Happy & getting paid so much why am I the heavyweight Undisputed champ who your promoter said is 190 pounds, why am I always the topic of conversation!? Fight each other ! Yall are closer in weight! 10 pounds ain’t it!?

In a following tweet, Shields asked why she keeps getting dragged into their conversations. And finally asked Serrano to fight Baumgardner instead. “Fight each other! Y’all are closer in weight! 10 pounds ain’t it!?” Shields wrote. Serrano is currently scheduled to face Katie Taylor in a trilogy fight in June, while Baumgardner hasn’t found an opponent yet.

Regardless, while the Shields vs. Baumgardner fight is not happening, the two-time Olympic gold medalist has proposed another idea for Baumgardner to find an opponent.

Claressa Shields puts her issues with MVP and Amanda Serrano aside to share a proposal

Since the whole ordeal, Claressa Shields has shared her take on the trilogy fight between Amanda Serrano and Katie Taylor, which will unfold at Madison Square Garden in New York. After suffering two losses against Taylor, Serrano aims to avenge her loss through this last opportunity.

And this seems to have given Claressa Shields a good idea about the next opponent for Baumgardner. “@Serranosisters & @MostVpromotions ! The winner should fight BAUMGARDNER! That’s the conversation,” Shields wrote. She also threatened MVP about dragging her name into their business, writing, “Now y’all come bothering me again imma air this btc out. I don’t feel like being bothered.”

That being said, it appears Claressa Shields is at her breaking point and doesn’t want to deal with MVP anymore. However, whether her suggestion for Serrano and Baumgardner to fight each other is actually accepted is yet to be seen. Do you think that would be a good matchup?
