Right after the Masters, DeChambeau traveled. Not too far. Just to North Carolina where he went to this little golf course called Pinehurst No.2. What’s so special about that golf course? That’s the spot where he won his second major, the 2024 US Open.
There were a few similarities between the 2024 US Open and the 2025 Masters. In both these instances, DeChambeau and Rory McIlroy were locked in a tough head-to-head battle, heading toward the final day. The difference was that the former won this over the latter with the shot of the bunker on hole 18.
McIlroy had finished his round and was waiting for DeChambeau. The LIV golfer was one stroke and only had two strokes to hit the pin. The problem, the ball is in the bunker on the fairway. A par looked impossible, but DeChambeau went ahead with full confidence. He took a shot that was brilliantly in line and stopped just mere feet from the pin, leaving for an easy putt.
He made the putt and the celebrations ensued. It was truly a moment to remember for the Southern Methodist University alum, who won his second US Open title in five years. Now more than half a year later, he is back at the bunker, where his fortunes changed for the better.
He was called to unveil a new plaque marking the spot from where he took the iconic bunker shot. “The Shot of My Life” as DeChambeau calls it, will now be etched in history, forever at the fairway in Pinehurst No.2. He also went ahead and tried to recreate the shot from the bunker.

Fans did not take this as lightly as DeChambeau, criticizing him for doing this right after the tough loss.
Fans confused over Bryson DeChambeau’s interesting decision
It does seem strange to decide to travel to North Carolina and do this right after what was a brutal last day at the Augusta National Golf Course. One fan stated, “Quite the cope,” indicating that DeChambeau did so to cope with the disappointment from the Masters.
Another netizen noted the decision as an interesting one, stating,“Interesting Timing, the day after the Masters.” That thought process seems to be common amongst the golfing community with another user also expressing a bit of confusion regarding the decision. “Feels weird to do this the day after a tough loss.” The netizen explained.
DeChambeau headed to the final day of Masters with the second-best odds and a real shot claiming his first-ever green jacket. He had shown good consistency across the first three days, with scores of 69, 68, and 69 on the 72-par course. But Day 4 was the undoing of what could have been a historic performance. He shot 4 bogeys and a double bogey to finish T5 with a score of 3 over par for the day. Tough loss indeed!
One user was evidently not a Bryson DeChambeau fan as they opined, “Thankfully he did not have a green jacket on for this.”
One user on X pointed out that, the trip would have in all likelihood, been thought of and decided upon many days ago. They further mentioned that given his state of mind after the tough loss, he should be praised for making the journey in order not to disappoint the fans who had come to watch the occasion. “It’s been planned for weeks if not longer. Give him credit for making the trip!” The user stated.
What do you think of the situation? Should DeChambeau have canceled the trip due to his tough Masters loss?
