Alex Bregman and Rafael Devers Reveal What They Really Think About Each Other After Red Sox 3B Drama

5 min read

The Boston Red Sox‘s third base drama seems to be going on forever. Ever since the Red Sox signed Alex Bregman despite having Rafael Devers for the third base, there have been a lot of debates going around. Every fan speculated about the tension at the dugout, considering the fact that Rafael Devers shared his unwillingness to shift from his third base position for Bregman. However, all these speculations and rumors have finally come to an end, as both Bregman and Devers have made some surprising revelations.

Many of us know that the two-time Silver Slugger, Rafael Devers, didn’t agree to give up his position and let Bregman fill in that position. He had always played at third base, and it’s true to believe that players usually perform the best in their usual positions. However, Alex Cora denied that position, giving it to Bregman and making Devers a designated hitter in their lineup. So, now everything seems sorted, as both of them are playing together and have shared their opinion about all the drama. What did they say?

Just before the 2025 season began, regardless of the plans that the Red Sox had, Rafael Devers’ initial response to playing as a designated hitter was “no.” However, their manager, Alex Cora, finalized the decision. But, during the opening game against the Texas Rangers, the Red Sox struggled massively. Irrespective of the 5-2 win, neither Devers nor Bregman left any lasting impression as they faced a combined four strikeouts across the eight at-bats. However, they bounced back, and, well, they did it pretty well.

In the next game, both Bregman and Devers went 8-for-9 and managed to post five extra-base hits along with 9 RBIs, too. But that wasn’t all! Alex Bregman hit the first home run, followed by Rafael Devers also marking his name in the home run list. As expected, both of them praised each other, putting an end to all the tensions that were in the minds of every fan. Devers said, “I feel really happy playing with him because he’s a superstar. And as a whole team, we had a really great game, just up and down. And I think that’s something that we can expect this year is for us to do performances like we did tonight.”

Responding to Rafael Devers, on a positive note, Alex Bregman said, “Everyone knew that it was just a matter of time. He’s one of the best hitters in the game. He has been for pretty much the last decade. He’s an extra-base hit monster. His swing decisions have been incredible. He hits the ball harder than anyone, and it’s really fun to hit after him because I get a front-row seat to it every night.” Bregman, currently boasts the highest number of hits, which is 16, and Devers isn’t much behind as well. He has shown good signs as a designated hitter, batting at an average of .268, with a .382 OBP and a .793 OPS.

Now it all depends on how well they perform as a team and not just as an individual. But despite the good signs shown by both of them on the ground, the Red Sox’s manager has a lot to think after their loss against the White Sox.

Red Sox manager had a lot to answer after their painful loss to White Sox

While Alex Bregman and Rafael Devers have finally resolved the tension between them, both of them working together to do the best for the team, the team’s recent loss has raised a lot of questions. First of all, their lacklustre defense is a major aspect that needs intervention. Other than that, during the aforementioned Red Sox-White Sox, the Bostonians committed five errors when compared to only one error made by the White Sox. That was the difference in the game and perhaps the reason behind conceding the defeat. Alex Cora, however, pointed out, “Defensively, we had a chance to turn the double play; we didn’t. The interferences—we have to be better at that.” But that’s not all that can win them games!

Manager Alex Cora mentioned the lack of intent shown by the batters to hit the ball while the defense was poor as well. In a similar way, the Boston Red Sox previously struggled at Fenway Park, too. However, we can’t deny that it’s been a normal thing for them, as they are known for losing most of the road series games when they faced the Rangers earlier. So, Cora thinks that they will need to put in a lot more effort, forget what happened in the past and focus on the present.

What, according to you, might be the reason behind the Red Sox’s loss? Let us know in the comment section below.
