All Fans Say the Same Thing As Billy Horschel’s ‘Solid’ Play Falls Short of His Masters Dreams

“If you missed the cut, you didn’t play good.” That’s the bottom line for any golfer. And when you’re competing on one of the toughest courses out there—Augusta National—any explanation after missing the cut can easily be brushed off as just another excuse.

That said, Friday saw several players packing their bags after failing to make it to the weekend. Among them was Billy Horschel, making his 10th Masters appearance, who’s now out of the game after Round 2. He carded an even-par 72—a pretty steady round, all things considered. He had a couple of hiccups with bogeys on the 5th and 11th holes, both par 4s, but pulled one back with a birdie on the par-4 14th, where he scored a 3. The rest of the holes he played at par, so nothing too flashy but nothing disastrous either.

Still, across both rounds, the numbers just didn’t add up. He finished at +5 overall, which meant he missed the cut (and yes, that “MC” next to his name confirms it).

Now, for someone who’s an eight-time PGA Tour winner, that’s jarring, especially considering this is his fifth missed cut of the season. Plus, this was his 10th appearance at the Masters, so it’s not like he lacks experience. But Augusta had other plans for him this time.

Despite all that, Horschel isn’t letting the setback shake his confidence. Taking to X, he wrote: “Sucks to miss the cut @TheMasters. Score doesn’t indicate how solid I played over 36 holes. Just didn’t score very well. 5 3 putts and played par 5s in +1. Putter was cold this week again. One of the positive takeaways from this week is mentally this is the best Masters I’ve ever had. Thank you for all the Go Gators and Gator Chomps this past week! Loved it!”

While some might view his optimism as a bit vague after a missed cut, his fans have his back, no matter what.

Billy Horschel’s fans prove loyalty even during his setback

In an age where public figures are often one poor performance away from being scrutinized, Billy Horschel has managed to build something rare—a loyal fanbase that sticks with him, even when the leaderboard doesn’t. Yes, you read that right. Such fans do exist—at least for Horschel.

“Keep grinding, Billy! It’ll come.” one fan wrote, cheering him. Another chimed in with, “Well done Billy! Love the positive attitude.” It’s clear from these comments that his fans really appreciate his mindset—staying positive even when the scorecards don’t tell the story he hoped for.

Then came the comment that went beyond performance. “Billy you’re a born winner. Changing lives.” Another echoed a deeper sense of pride: “You’ve represented Gator Nation well, Billy! Go Gators!” These fans weren’t just talking about his performance; they were recognizing the pride he brings to the University of Florida. Horschel, a four-time All-American, helped lead the Gators to an SEC Championship in 2010. His connection with Gator Nation is more than just a badge he wears—it’s a part of who he is, and that bond shows in how his fans support him.

One comment really summed it all up: “I’ve become a huge fan of yours over the last couple of years. I love how authentic you are, and supportive of your colleagues (see: Nick Dunlap). Not your week — it happens. Will be rooting for you next time you tee it up.”  It’s that authenticity and genuine support for others that has really earned Billy respect among his peers. Take his support for Nick Dunlap as an example. After Dunlap’s disastrous opening round at the 2025 Masters, where he carded a 90, it was Horschel who was seen offering words of encouragement as they walked off the 18th green. “I’ve got a lot of respect for the way you handled it and you’ve earned a lot of respect from players and from the millions watching,” Horschel told him.

While his +5 finish at Augusta may have sent him home early, the story doesn’t end with a missed cut. If anything, it picks up from there, with a golfer who remains true to himself and a fanbase that’s there for him through thick and thin.
