“Will Be Attending School” – Leaving Miami Open Title Behind, Danielle Collins Takes Home an Unexpected New Friend

4 min read

An emotional moment unfolded after Danielle Collins’ third-round win against Rebecka Masarova last Thursday at the Miami Open. In her on-court interview, Collins shared a heartfelt story about finding a dog, later named Crash due to the circumstances, who had been struck by a car in Miami. She recounted rescuing him and the subsequent two days he spent in critical condition at an animal hospital, appealing for prayers for his recovery and their hopes to adopt him. It seems that those prayers may have been answered.

Three days later to the incident, on March 26, Collins dropped a “Crash update.”

“Crash is recovering and finally out of the hospital after 5 days on oxygen support. His breathing is back to normal, his wounds are healing, and he is definitely enjoying all the love he is receiving. He is curious, affectionate, and grateful for a second chance at life. It was so incredibly painful to witness a dog in so much pain after being hit by a car, and left in the middle of the road with so many people driving by his curled up body. I’m just grateful I was able to be there and get him the care he needed.”

Collins has officially adopted him as well and “Quincy now has a new brother! Once he finishes recovering he will be attending school.” Collins further wrote, “ thank you to everyone who prayed for CrashAlso a massive thank you to the wonderful team of veterinarians that took care of Crash and helped him receive the best possible care!”

Quincy is one of Collins’ four pet dogs, alongside Scout, Lola (Apple Pie), and Harper. According to her, they bring a much-needed comfort to her life. “Yeah, I have one dog, and my parents have three dogs. They are so fun to be around. When I travel, we have to be away from each other for so long. My dog is Quincy and is a mix,” she said in a press conference back in July 2020. Remember how she admired Quincy last season after the Miami Open triumph?

When Quincy became the ‘MVP’ for Danielle Collins

During 2024’s initial phase, Danielle Collins was performing brilliantly on the court. She won two straight WTA events in Miami and then in Charleston. And guess who was her inspiration? None other than Quincy. She made it evident after her title win in Florida and the Charleston Open. In the latter, she defeated Daria Kasatkina, 6-2, 6-1. With that, she also became the first woman to clinch back-to-back Miami and Charleston trophies since Serena Williams in 2013.

During her post-match interview, she finally got to see Quincy. “He started on his road trip last night, late in the evening, Rachel our great family friend and her husband loaded up the RV and they got Mr. Q here in time for the finals,” she revealed, as reported by Tennis Channel in April 2024. “Mr. Q was so missed this week so I can’t wait to give him a big ol’ hug!”

Not only that, she even gave him a special title while also crediting him for the Miami triumph in which she beat Elena Rybakina in the final. In an IG post, last April, she shared a video with ‘Mr.Q’ and wrote, “This year’s Miami Open MVP goes to my very handsome, very sophisticated, smart, loving, charismatic, ball of energy, my favorite son… Mister Q! Quincy, I don’t know what I would do without you. I love you sir!! ”

Now that Crash also is going to join the furry family, one can only imagine how much Collins will enjoy their company. Simply adorable, isn’t it? What do you think?
