Every athlete dreams of winning, but for some, the true victory lies beyond the trophies and the roaring crowds. It’s in the moments that remind them why they started, the ones that make the struggle worthwhile. For six-time PGA Tour champion, Lucas Glover, that moment came at the 2023 Wyndham Championship, when he saw his son, Lucas Jr., run toward him with pure joy, shouting: “Daddy, you won! Daddy, you won! You won!” It wasn’t just another title. It was a moment of redemption. A reminder of what matters most.
In a candid conversation on the Stepping Into the Fire YouTube channel, Glover reflected on that emotional victory—one that left his entire family in tears. “Tears of joy, smiles of joy, laughs of joy,” he recalled. “Had my folks there, my father-in-law, and then my wife and sister-in-law got to be there the next week. And they were all crying too. So was I.”
Glover, the 2009 U.S. Open winner, had faced a turbulent stretch in his career, struggling with consistency and form. His 2024 season was winless, and in 2025, he is still searching for a breakthrough. That makes his 2023 Wyndham Championship win even more special, as it was the last time he clinched the trophy on course.

The Wyndham Championship win didn’t just end a dry spell—it was a deeply personal victory. Before that, Glover had last won at the 2021 John Deere Classic, but his kids weren’t there to witness it. “I won the Deere in ‘21. They were there that morning and had to fly home, so they didn’t get to be there,” Glover shared. “But having them there and then my wife there the next week was pretty awesome.” That’s what made 2023 different. This time, he got to share his victory with the people who matter most.
Glover admitted that his struggles on the course had taken a toll on his personal life. “I don’t get to see these guys as much as I’ve wanted to because I haven’t been playing that great,” he said after the win. “Maybe I can see more practices and games and be home a little more. I’m too old to be on the road this much. I’ve been busting my hump so I can be with them and be with my wife. I’m so happy.” It wasn’t just about proving himself as a golfer, rather it was about making sure his sacrifices were worth it.
Lucas Glover’s win at Wyndham Championship was sheer talent
Glover didn’t just win the 2023 Wyndham Championship—he earned it with sheer skill and composure. Coming into the week ranked No. 112 in the FedEx Cup standings, he was on the verge of missing the playoffs altogether. But by Sunday evening, he had turned it all around, shooting 20 under par and securing his fifth PGA Tour title. Mind you, it wasn’t an easy road.
After a scorching 62 on Saturday, Glover found himself in contention. Then came Sunday, where he battled it out with Russell Henley, while 54-hole co-leader Billy Horschel faded late with no birdies until the 18th.
The final round had everything—momentum swings, nerves of steel, and even a two-hour weather delay. When the game resumed, Henley briefly snatched the lead with a birdie at 15, only to suffer back-to-back bogeys on 16 and 17. By the time he bogeyed 18 as well, Glover had played smart, parring his way through the last four holes and sealing the victory.

Since that emotional victory, Glover has been working hard to chase another big moment. Currently playing at the 2025 Valspar Championship, he’s showing glimpses of his top form again. It’s his ninth event of the season, and so far, he has made the cut in 5 tournaments, finished Top 10 in 2 events, and placed Top 25 in 3 events.
At T17 after the third round of the Valspar, he’s within striking distance of another great finish. If he can push just a little harder on Sunday, who knows? Maybe, just maybe, he can recreate the magic of Wyndham 2023 and find himself back in the winner’s circle.
