Robbie Lalwler Gives Green Light to a BKFC Fight Amid UFC Comeback Rumors – “A Fight’s a Fight”

“Stay tuned, we might have an announcement with Fedor Emelianenko. Hey Fedor, we’re waiting… Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship is signing and acquiring the best fighters of all time.” With this statement, UFC megastar and BKFC co-owner Conor McGregor publicly extended an offer to MMA legend Fedor Emelianenko, inviting him to compete in his promotion. Over the past few months, the Irishman has been on a mission to bring MMA legends into BKFC while managing his other business ventures. The promotion has already signed several ex-UFC fighters. But what about former UFC welterweight champion Robbie Lawler?

Could “Ruthless” be the next big name to join BKFC? Known for his relentless fighting style, the Floridian has delivered some of the most iconic fights in UFC history, earning multiple Fight of the Year honors. His legendary battles have solidified his reputation as one of the most exciting fighters ever, with some of his fights enshrined in the UFC Hall of Fame’s Fight Wing. Dana White himself once hailed Lawler as the “most badass athlete” to step into the Octagon, praising his ability to walk out of brutal wars covered in blood.

This makes Robbie Lawler an ideal fit for BKFC. But would he be willing to step into the world of bare-knuckle boxing? According to ‘Ruthless’, “Never say never.” While speaking on the Jaxxon Podcast, co-host Bear Degidio asked him directly, “Can you fight bare-knuckle? Do you want to fight bare-knuckle?” – well, the San Diego fighter didn’t rule out the possibility, but he had one condition—the “price has to be right.

When discussing a potential return, Robbie Lawler admitted, “A fight’s a fight to me…Yeah, and coming out of retirement, putting in that work, freaking focusing on something that I stopped focusing on before.” However, when asked if he still trains regularly, the  Floridian made a key distinction between staying in shape and preparing for a fight. “Yeah, just training is different. I train to stay sharp in a couple of areas, be freaking strong, but actually putting in a training camp? That’s work. It’s time away from coaching and my business.”

Robbie Lawler, a seasoned, mixed martial artist, began his career in 2002 with a knockout victory in smaller promotions. Throughout his illustrious career, he has competed in both the welterweight and middleweight divisions. After a period away from the UFC, the San Diego export made his return in 2013, where he wasted no time making an impression, knocking out Josh Koscheck and earning the Knockout of the Night bonus.

In December 2014, nearly a year later, the former champ took on Johnny Hendricks for the UFC welterweight title. After a gritty battle, Lawler secured the belt with a hard-earned split decision victory. He continued to make his mark in the UFC, culminating in a memorable 38-second knockout of Niko Price at UFC 290 in 2023. Now, with a career that has seen him cement his legacy, Lawler is set to be inducted into the UFC’s ‘Modern Wing’ of the Hall of Fame this summer.

Dana White announced Robbie Lawler’s UFC Hall of Fame induction during UFC 313

Robbie Lawler is one of the few mixed martial artists who made their UFC debut at a young age. At just 20 years old, he stepped into the Octagon and immediately proved he was built for the long haul. Over his remarkable 21-year career, the Floridian engaged in countless wars, solidifying his legacy and earning a well-deserved spot in the UFC Hall of Fame across multiple categories.

Earlier this month, at UFC 313, just before Alex Pereira and Magomed Ankalaev faced off, UFC president Dana White officially announced Robbie Lawler’s induction into the Hall of Fame’s Modern Wing. The ceremony is set to take place at UFC 317 during International Fight Week at the T-Mobile Arena. Reflecting on ‘Ruthless’s impact, White stated, “Robbie was an absolute killer, and I have a ton of respect for his toughness and his fighting style, which helped grow the sport of MMA and the UFC by attracting a lot of new fans. Robbie had an amazing career, and it will be an honor to induct him into the UFC Hall of Fame this summer.”

Robbie Lawler’s unforgettable clash against Rory MacDonald at UFC 189, held at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in 2015, has already been enshrined in the UFC Hall of Fame’s Fight Wing. His title-winning war against Johny Hendricks in 2014 also earned the UFC’s Fight of the Year honors. Now, with an impressive 30-16 record, Lawler is ready to embark on the next chapter of his combat sports career.

The question remains—what’s next for “Ruthless” Robbie Lawler? Could he make the jump to Conor McGregor’s BKFC? Would he thrive in the world of bare-knuckle fighting? Share your thoughts below.
