Now that the NFL Draft is creeping closer, the race to get top talent is turning into a full-blown bidding war. Look, Cam Ward is currently the top prospect in most mock drafts, with Mel Kiper even projecting him as the No. 1 pick for Tennessee. However, if the Titans decide to go in a different direction, Ward’s draft night could take an unexpected turn. One minute, he’s the golden ticket; the next, he’s watching the board longer than expected.
Well, it looks like the QB trade market is heating up, and the Titans and Falcons are right in the middle of it. As an NFL insider, @JosinaAnderson just dropped a bomb on X, saying that Kirk Cousins and Will Levis have come up in early trade discussions. She said, “Atlanta has been getting calls,” and teams might be willing to offer a third-round pick for Cousins. Meanwhile, “The Titans would like to transition”—this” indicates a potential change in direction at the quarterback position, moving past Will Levis. Yet, this move comes at a price—they must relinquish their third overall draft pick to the Falcons.
But if that happens, which team jumps in? It’s obviously the Giants, who have been looking to trade up for Cam Ward, but as Samuel Brown RBT put it in replying to Josina’s tweet, “After all the talk about the Giants trading up for Cam Ward, you are going to send the Titans a 4th for Will Levis, and you’re going to love it.” So, the Giants having the first pick changes things; the Titans could draft Ward and trade Levis for a fourth-round pick.

This approach allows the Titans to maintain their draft position while also addressing their quarterback situation. The Titans are exploring various options, which could lead to other teams making moves. If Tennessee selects Cam Ward, it could impact the Giants’ plans, as they currently only have Tommy DeVito on their roster. Trading Levis for a fourth-round pick would enable the Titans to acquire additional assets, such as a receiver or defensive help for Ward. It seems like Samuel has everything planned out.
Now, Will Levis’ and Kirk Cousins’ trade is still a speculation, but what makes Cam Ward’s situation more interesting is that either way, the Giants might lose their chance to trade their 3rd spot with the Titans. As NFL insider Adam Schefter thinks that’s absolutely not going to happen, saying, “Zero chance that Cam Ward is going to make it to the Giants at three, just not going to happen, so I expect that Cam Ward will be the number one pick in the draft, whether that’s Tennessee or Cleveland or the New York Giants making that pick.” If that’s the case, there’s no way the Giants are in the mix.
Now, with Cam Ward’s draft stocks getting a major push, there are also doubts looming over his draft ranks.
Cam Ward’s concerning draft revelation
Well, Cam Ward had an exceptional college career, amassing 18,000 passing yards, 158 touchdowns, being a Heisman finalist, and receiving a top-5 draft grade consensus. Despite being considered the top quarterback in this class by most analysts, there’s a downside. This year’s quarterback pool is seen as weak, drawing parallels to 2022 when Kenny Pickett was the first QB selected at 20th overall. Although analysts project Ward to be drafted higher, his draft position remains uncertain.
As Albert Breer brings out a concerning aspect in Cam Ward’s draft stock on The Rich Eisen Show, he points out what teams are saying. “I used this term with you last week. I think Rich, [Cam Ward is] the guy you chase ceiling with. He’s still inconsistent. He still has some growing to do. But he is somebody who has a high ceiling.” The problem is that while his potential is enormous, he still needs a lot of refinement. Delays by teams might mean he stays in the green room longer.
That puts the Titans in a difficult situation as they hold the No. 1 overall pick. They have several options: draft Ward and take a chance on his potential, trade down for more picks or stick with a veteran and wait for next year’s stronger quarterback class. Any of these moves could significantly impact the draft. If the Titans choose to trade down, they could accumulate assets and aim for a top defensive player like EDGE Abdul Carter or versatile player Travis Hunter.
As Breer put it bluntly: “If you’re Cleveland or Tennessee in the AFC, and you’re contending with Lamar Jackson, Joe Burrow, Josh Allen, Patrick Mahomes, Justin Herbert, CJ Stroud, and all these different guys. Maybe you do have to chase ceiling.”
Now, Tennessee has to decide—swing big on Ward or play it safe and cash in on a trade. Till then, let’s wait and see how Cam Ward’s NFL future turns out!
