“Dana White Keeps Trying” – Joe Rogan Delivers Bad Update on UFC CEO’s Request for Power Slap

4 min read

Following the success of the UFC, Dana White has come out to claim that his slap-fighting league, Power Slap, will be the next big thing. He even claims that his second promotion is gaining a lot of online traction when it comes to the number of views. However, UFC color commentator Joe Rogan doesn’t appear to be a big fan of Power Slap, and he’s got a pretty good reason behind it.

Joe Rogan isn’t able to comprehend why people compete not just in Power Slap but in slap-fighting as a whole. Why? Well, he argues that fighting is all about defending intelligently and avoiding your opponents, which is evident in mixed martial arts, boxing, and several other combat sports disciplines. However, that’s not the case with slap-fighting because it’s all about absorbing the hits.

“Dudes are getting just knocked into another dimension with a slap. It’s so crazy to watch. I just don’t understand why people are signing up for that,” Joe Rogan stated on the #2286 edition of the JRE podcast. “The thing about fighting is you’re trying to not get hit. Like, if punches are coming, you’re trying to turn away. You’re trying to move, you’re moving your head off-center line. If you’re slapping, you’re hundred percent going to get hit.”

Although Joe Rogan isn’t a big fan of Dana White’s new endeavor, he still attended one of those events at Dana White’s request, according to his revelation. “You just have to sit there and take it… and every time, full blast. Every time, you’re standing still… Dana White keeps trying to get me to come see. I’m like, ‘Okay, I’ll go. I’ll go to one of these.’ But it’s just so nuts,” the 57-year-old added.

But do you know how Dana White came about in establishing the Power Slap promotion? Well, UFC’s multi-division fighter, Kevin Holland, once claimed that it started for the 55-year-old when he ate a slap from Nate Diaz. Here’s what ‘Trailblazer’ had to say.

UFC star reveals alleged reason behind Dana White’s Power Slap decision

In 2016, Nate Diaz and Dana White shocked the whole MMA community when the Stockton native slapped his employer, leaving fans dumbfounded. But why did the former UFC star do that? Well, White would later reveal that all of this happened because of promotional purposes for the Conor McGregor rematch and it was he who asked Diaz to slap him in his face. A few years later, in 2023, Kevin Holland would appear in a podcast, claiming that the slap from Diaz was what inspired the 55-year-old promoter to introduce the Power Slap promotion.

“You know how this all got invented, right? You know how this all got invented? Bro, when Diaz and Dana did the deal, and when Diaz slapped Dana, it did so many numbers that Dana then had the idea to come out with the Power Slap. This is a true story,” Kevin Holland stated on the Real Recognize Real Podcast. Well, this has not been confirmed by Dana White or anyone involved with Power Slap, so we can’t be too sure if what Holland is claiming is indeed true.

Despite what Joe Rogan has to say about Power Slap, Dana White continues to beat the drums of his second promotion. The promotion recently moved from Rumble to YouTube, and it will be interesting to see what the future holds for White’s slap-fighting endeavor. Let us know your thoughts in the comments down below.
