Travis Hunter’s Brother Trayvis’ OT7 Heroics Drowned In Trolls as Parents Face Unnecessary Attacks

5 min read

It seems the Sanders family isn’t the only one attracting online buzz; the Hunter clan is quickly gaining ground. Already the Colorado Buffaloes’ dual-threat star Travis Hunter has caught the online criticism after he compared his football dual-position skills to MLB star Shohei Ohtani’s, claiming his were more challenging. And now, as big bro navigates the path toward the NFL with caution, little brother Trayvis Hunter is stepping into the spotlight, albeit with a bit of a bumpy start.

At just 17, Trayvis has already turned heads with his OT7 heroics. While he’s got a ways to go to match Travis’s prowess, he’s certainly drawn the attention of the internet trolls. And it’s not just Trayvis; the Hunter parents have also been caught in the online fray, facing a barrage of criticism from fans.

Trayvis Hunter takes center stage on day one

The next generation of football stars kicks off with the 2025 OT7. Overtime’s 7-on-7 competition showcases the nation’s most elite high school players in a fast-paced, helmet-off style of play. Stats say that over 30% of the OT7 players over the past couple of years got drafted to the NFL. And on the first day of the competition, OT7 was all about Travis’ bro Trayvis. It was difficult to take one’s eyes off the wide receiver from Effingham County High School in Springfield, Georgia. With this, he has already fallen into the comparison game with big bro Travis.

On March 16, MaxPreps posted clips from Trayvis’ heroic feat with the caption, “Trayvis Hunter is BALLING in #12 just like his big bro @_tray.4 @ot7.” And it’s easy to identify how the younger Hunter has inherited the older Hunter’s speed. The clip shows how Trayvis rushed for the pigskin and beautifully caught hold of it with ease. Now this must have made Travis proud. After all, he has been setting the ceiling high for his sibling so that Trayvis does not have to look outside for inspiration. Do you remember Travis’ speech from the Heisman night?

“My brother, where you at, Trayvis? That’s my dawg man, You know, I do that for you bro.” The sophomore from Georgia is a 2027 college recruit. But his stats have already been the talk of the town. Trayvis totaled 496 receiving yards and six touchdowns in nine games in 2024. The talent and IQ are there; no question. Perhaps that’s why Travis is taking a hands-off approach with his brother. As the Buffs dual-threat confessed, “Nah, I don’t give him no advice because I want him to go through it just like I had to go through it. I could tell you everything you need to know, but you’ve got to go face it by yourself. I can’t be there when it’s time for you to face it.” Well, if not game advice, Travis must give some advice on how to tackle trolls. Because the newbie is gonna need some.

Fans roast the Hunters for their ‘creativity’

Travis has seen the dark side of college football, how quickly fans can turn on you, even targeting his fiancée, Leanna Lenee. Life hasn’t been easy for the Hunter brothers. With their father, Travis Hunter Sr., serving a 90-day jail sentence since last September, he’s missed some key moments. But now, it’s their parents’ naming choices that have fans riled up. “Who thought that said Travis Hunter,” one fan questioned, highlighting the confusion.

Their mother, Ferrante Edmonds, recently gained recognition as a spiritual orator, even earning the “Woman of God” badge at the Can We Talk Sports show’s Sports Mom Conference 2025. Yet, her creativity in naming her sons has earned her zero points with fans. “Parents are not creative,” one commented.

It’s clear talent runs in the family. Edmonds is gaining fame for her speeches, and their father was a football and track star at Boynton Beach High School, even playing semi-pro football. However, when it came to naming their sons, they opted for minimal effort, adding a “y” to differentiate them. “How you gonna name a kid Travis and the next one you’re like whatever just through a Y in there somewhere lol,” one fan joked.

After three months of digital silence, Hunter Sr. wished Trayvis a happy 17th birthday, writing, “Happy 17th birthday to my son Trayvis I love u mane man I love u son enjoy ur day….” But instead of celebrating the moment, fans focused on the names. “they d- – – – – s named their kids travis and trayvis ,” one wrote, while another sarcastically claimed, “Those who know that’s Travis Hunter.” Now, will Trayvis’ OT7 flashes translate into a distinct on-field persona that transcends his brother’s shadow? Can he leverage the spotlight, not just inherit it, to become Trayvis Hunter, the player, not just the other Hunter or younger Hunter or Hunter with a Y?
