TGL has made headlines since its inception, starting with accusations of having “paid actors” in the audience. Five weeks in, fans began to question whether the TGL indoor simulator was faulty, especially after Tiger Woods hit a wedge shot that flew 30 yards long, sending the ball over the green into a hazard. However, TGL also achieved a significant milestone by debuting with over a million viewers, which is certainly promising! With the inaugural regular season now through, the TGL playoffs are set to begin. What’s the scene like now? Let’s find out.
As a brand-new indoor golf league, TGL has specific rules for playoff qualification. Each of the six original teams earned 2 points for a win and 1 point for an overtime loss. The top four teams with the most points qualified for the playoffs. With that, the Los Angeles Golf Club (1), Bay Golf Club (2), Atlanta Drive Golf Club (3), and New York Golf Club (4) will soon face off against each other.
So, what can we expect? The first semifinal match will take place on March 17 between New York Golf Club and Los Angeles Golf Club, with the teams teeing off at 7:00 PM (ET). You might wonder which players will compete in this playoff match. Xander Schauffele will face Collin Morikawa on Hole 1, while Rickie Fowler will go up against Tommy Fleetwood on Hole 2. Additionally, Cameron Young will compete against Sahith Theegala on Hole 3. It all just sounds too exciting!
What about the second semifinal match, you ask? It will kick off at 7:00 PM (ET) between Atlanta Drive GC and The Bay Golf Club. Both teams feature star-studded players, with Atlanta’s Justin Thomas facing Bay’s Shane Lowry on Hole 1. Following them, Billy Horschel will compete against Wyndham Clark in Hole 2, and Patrick Cantlay will go up against Ludvig Aberg in Hole 3. Exciting matchups!
