Sam Darnold just dropped some interesting tidbits during his Seahawks intro presser. Turns out, the guy who helped revive his NFL career isn’t Kyle Shanahan or some big-name coach, it’s… Brock Purdy! Yeah, the same Brock Purdy who took the league by storm by making the Super Bowl in his sophomore year in the league. The same Brock Purdy who, still on his rookie contract, currently earns less than backup Mac Jones at the 49ers.
Darnold spent the 2023 season with the Niners, watching Purdy work his magic, and it left a mark. “My job is to be the point guard and get the playmakers the ball,” Darnold said, explaining how Purdy’s mindset flipped a switch for him. “That’s where it unlocked for me.” Pretty cool to see one QB giving props to another like that, right?

Perhaps that motivation played a part in propelling Darnold to his 14-win season with the Vikings last year. Still not enough to earn a callback. But now, he’s all in on his fresh start with the Seahawks. He’s talking big about doing something special in Seattle, saying, “I think we have an opportunity to do something very, very special here, but it’s going to take a lot of hard work.” He’s ready to put his head down, grind, and see where this new chapter takes him.
This is a developing story. Stay tuned…
