When the LV Raiders owner Mark Davis gave the responsibility to the co-owner Tom Brady, huge changes were guaranteed. The first one was the head coach. The GOAT brought in the veteran Pete Carroll, with 15+ years of coaching experience in the league. He made his intentions clear about sorting out the quarterback position. Rumor mills went into overdrive when he had a ‘chance’ meeting with Rams QB Matthew Stafford at a ski resort in Montana. That ended when he agreed to restructure his contract and remain in LA.
Then there were even rumors about Russell Wilson from the Steelers reuniting with Carroll to reignite their Super Bowl winning chemistry. There were even mentions of Aaron Rodgers, formerly of the Jets, as there seem to be with virtually half the teams needing a QB. But everyone was curious about who the Raiders would release to make space. We have the answer now.
A few days ago, they reunited the HC with his old QB, just not the one everyone expected. Instead of Wilson, Geno Smith was brought in from the Seahawks, in exchange for a 3rd round pick (92nd overall) in the 2025 draft. And now they’ve raised a few eyebrows by releasing Gardner Minshew. The 28-year-old was signed in 2024 on a 2-year deal. He had a poor 2-7 record for the franchise in 2024.

Pete Carroll wants to not only upgrade the signal caller but also to strengthen his O-line. To do that, he is targeting the Rams WR Cooper Kupp. That will be a major boost if he succeeds in bringing him on board.
