The New York Mets are gearing up for possibly one of the most exciting seasons. They have superstars in their team from Juan Soto, and Pete Alonso, to Francisco Lindor. The team is among the favorites to make a run for the championship trophy this season.
But while the clubhouse is buzzing with the excitement of Opening Day, Lindor’s entire focus is somewhere else—his family, or rather, his growing family.
The 31-year-old Mets superstar and his wife, Katia Reguero, are expecting their third child – their first son. The expected date is April 9, so it’s right around the corner. So, even though spring training is winding down now, Lindor isn’t thinking about batting averages. He is waiting for the moment he gets to hold his junior.
And if the moment happens to come in early— Lindor is clear—baseball simply has to wait.
For Lindor, this isn’t just another step! He is already a proud dad to Kalina Zoe and Amapola Chloe. But this time, it’s different because Katia has had a rather tough pregnancy! He has been her support system throughout and wants to be there for her in the future, too.
Lindor shared, “I am trying to see my baby boy be born soon. Once that happens, my mind will shift to Opening Day.”
It does seem like he has plenty in his mind. But isn’t this normal? It’s easy to forget that athletes behind the bright lights are also humans.
Katia, in fact, recently opened up about how she battled nausea during the New York Mets 2024 postseason run. Then the team made it to the NLCS against the Dodgers. “Fun fact: I was experiencing the worst nausea and vomiting going into the postseason. Women can—and often do—mask, overcome, and endure intense discomfort, sometimes so graciously that even those in the medical field don’t take our pain and symptoms seriously,” she shared.
Yeah, Lindor surely knows how crucial Opening Day is, but he made it clear—if the need comes, he will be right beside his wife.
The New York Mets star is excited and nervous about welcoming his son
Francisco Lindor is very eager to see his first son arrive. In the recent episode of Katia’s podcast, The Un-a-Parent, Katia, and Lindor talked about how his fatherhood will change with a son now. The shortstop mentioned the timing is almost perfect.
“Thank god, I had girls. So now, if a boy comes along, I know what it’s like to be a dad because if I had a boy from the beginning I would have been all over him, attacking, attacking, and I like to know that, if I’m going to have a son, it’s going to be in my thirties, where I’m much more mature.” Lindor said he knows having a son also means dealing with expectations. In fact, Katia brought up the elephant in the room—the pressure the child may face being a son of the superstar.“I am a little worried about that pressure, may be inevitable, no matter how much we want to avoid it. Do you think that, if he plays another sport that is not baseball, even if he plays another sport, that pressure will exist,“ she asked. Now, it’s a known fact that people always compare. But the $341 million Mets star thinks while there will be challenges, his son’s personality will help him figure out how he deals with them. “It depends on his personality.”
For Lindor, if his son can handle pressure, they won’t have to worry. If not, they can find ways to help him navigate it and support him. He seems like the dad who lets his son have the space he needs.
Don’t you agree?
