Michael Strahan Confirms Why He Ditched His Houston High School Reunion as ABC Host Roasts NFL Legend

4 min read

Our man Michael Strahan is all again in the buzz. But this time, it ain’t about his new The $100,000 Pyramid show, and no, not even about Fox NFL Sunday really. This time, it’s all about a recent talk he had with his ABC colleagues. A talk where Strahan revealed a personal story on TV in his signature humour, which had everyone laughing. Well, his fans love him too much to let this banter go unnoticed. More because it’s a story that hit them for how relatable it is. If you are guessing if it is about GMA Staff Layoffs. Well, not even close.

This time, in a recent talk on ABC’s Good Morning America on Monday, co-hosts Michael Strahan and Will Reeve got into the topic of high school reunions. Their talk quickly turned into a humorous take on Strahan’s very unique education. During the show, Will Reeve asked Strahan, “Did you ever go to your high school reunion?” And to that, Strahan replied with a chuckle, “Nope—I mean, I graduated with a class of two…” That had Will Reeve along with two other guests, Robin Roberts and George Stephanopoulos on the discussion, cracking up pretty bad.

Michael further put in his two cents to explain his situation. Like, what would be the point in joining a reunion anyway, which has just had a strength of two? What would they say? Michael suggested, “‘How are you?’ ‘How are you?’ Okay, let’s go home.” Well, at least for this playful banter, now we know the strength of Strahan’s graduating class. That is two.

Soon after the episode was on TV, GMA’s Instagram page posted this hilarious clip with the caption, “And the award for shortest high school reunion ever goes to… @michaelstrahan! ”  Where one commenter with similar experience wrote, “I feel seen! There were 3 of us. I never tell ppl I graduated 2nd in my class bc that’s ALWAYS the next question, how many.” And no surprise, Strahan replied to that, “@littleokie_ar I was second in my class out of two,” putting his signature humour on the table.

Michael Strahan’s journey rewind

Not sure what idea you have, but Michael Strahan’s journey just did not take a straight path. To put it, let’s go back to his first day, November 21, 1971. Yep, that’s the day he was born as the youngest of six kids in a family in Houston, Texas. At the age of nine, his family packed up and moved to Mannheim, West Germany. All the reasons because his dad, Gene Strahan, was stationed in the U.S. Army. So, instead of playing backyard football like most future NFL stars, our young Michael was overseas, dabbling in different sports, which were nowhere close to American football.
But luckily, Strahan’s path took a detour in the summer just before his senior year, his dad saw his potential, and sent him back to the U.S. On returning, he lived with his uncle Art in Houston, Texas, and attended Westbury High School. Although Strahan played only one season of organized football there, but that was enough to earn him a scholarship to Texas Southern University. He stood out for his size and athleticism, college football scouts took notice, and soon, he was on his way to the next stage.

From there, Strahan took Texas Southern University by storm, as a defensive end from 1989 to 1992. He dominated the field, racking up 41.5 career sacks—19 in a single season! His talent earned him SWAC Defensive Player of the Year and All-America honors, proving he was a beast on defense. From Germany to college football stardom, his unusual path to the NFL just worked fine. And, of course, he didn’t stop there. Next is where he became an all-time great!

His university days as a standout defensive end, led to a 15-year NFL career with the New York Giants. Culminating in a Super Bowl victory in 2007. Post-retirement, Strahan transitioned to television, co-hosting shows like “Fox NFL Sunday,” “Good Morning America,” and “The $100,000 Pyramid.” Michael’s recent talk on his high school experience gives us a glimpse into the humble beginnings of a man. A man who gained fame on both the football field and in the media. His ability to connect with audiences through humor and authenticity continues to endear him to fans worldwide.
