Emeka Egbuka is a proven winner. The Ohio State standout racked up over 1,000 yards and 10 TDs last season, helping lead the Buckeyes to a National Championship. Despite skipping physical drills at the NFL Combine, his first-round stock remains strong. And now, the Pittsburgh Steelers are showing real interest. Egbuka reportedly had a formal meeting with the team, sparking speculation about his potential fit. Adding to the intrigue? The Washington native is a lifelong Seahawks fan and has idolized Russell Wilson for years. But while the Steelers seem keen, an ex-NFL pro just dropped his take on whether Egbuka should link up with the Dallas Cowboys’ $240M quarterback.
In a recent episode of DLLS Sports, former NFL receiver Jesse Holley broke down the best wideouts in this year’s draft for the Cowboys. With $240M quarterback Dak Prescott needing more weapons, the first name on Holley’s list was none other than Ohio State’s Emeka Egbuka. And Holley didn’t hold back in his praise, saying, “In the scheme of things, the first receiver we have up for you is Ohio State wide receiver Emeka Egbuka. I think that Emeka Egbuka is probably the best route-running receiver, readymade route-running NFL receiver coming out of college today. You saw the productivity that he had at Ohio State. He stands at 6 feet 1 inch, 200 pounds—he can do everything.”
As of now, with elite footwork, smooth separation, and the versatility to line up anywhere, could Egbuka be the missing piece alongside CeeDee Lamb in Dallas? That’s where the debate begins. Critics argue, “Well, you know, he’s never really been a number one at Ohio State.” But let’s be real—he shared the field with some absolute dogs. Despite that, his production speaks for itself, and plugs him into the Cowboys’ offense, he instantly adds another dynamic weapon. On top of that, he can line up as the X receiver, shift across formations, and give defenses a serious headache.
However, Emeka Egbuka proved his talent last season, even while sharing the field with elite playmakers like Jeremiah Smith, Carnell Tate, Brandon Inniss, and so on. His ability to shine in big moments, like his clutch performance against PSU, speaks volumes. And Holley made it clear—Egbuka has the traits that translate to the next level. “He’s extremely smooth, has really good hands, tracks the ball all over the field, and creates separation through his route running. And I think that is paramount when you look at what this offense is going to be and the quarterback that’s throwing the football in this offense,” said the ex-NFL pro.
Last season, the Cowboys’ offense struggled a lot, and one of their biggest problems was their passing game’s lack of separation. Their devastating 47-9 loss to the Detroit Lions made that issue even more apparent. In light of this, Holley underlined the necessity of having a true route technician, saying, “The Dallas Cowboys, last year, struggled with separation—they were one of the worst teams in the NFL at creating separation amongst their pass catchers. I think a player like Emeka Egbuka sitting opposite of CeeDee Lamb gives you that ability to not only have another playmaker opposite CeeDee Lamb but a guy that can go out there and make the separation through his route running.”
Although the former NFL player believes that Egbuka would be a great fit for Dallas, Ohio State’s quarterback’s draft stock just took an unexpected flip.
Emeka Egbuka’s projected draft position in 2025
The Rams can’t afford to leave Matthew Stafford without weapons if Cooper Kupp isn’t in Los Angeles next season. While Puka Nacua is a star, he can’t do it alone. Sean McVay is aware of this and is considering all of his options, including the NFL Draft. Emeka Egbuka is a top WR with elite separation and smooth routes; he is projected to be the 26th overall pick by The Athletic’s Dane Brugler in his most recent mock draft.
However, different people have different perspectives. The paradox is that Egbuka is ranked much higher by ESPN at number 21. As of now, in Pittsburgh, he appears to be a perfect fit opposite George Pickens. Let’s face it, the only Steelers WR to reach 550 yards in the previous season was Pickens. Therefore, they need more firepower regardless of who starts as QB. Additionally, Egbuka might be the ideal answer to their offensive problems if he performs well this week.
Egbuka’s NFL destination is still uncertain as of right now. Who will get the Ohio State standout and give their offense a game-changer? Let’s wait and find out.
