Gael Monfils and Elina Svitolina Show Why They’re the Ultimate Couple Goals With Their “Equally Bad” Habits

5 min read

Fans just can’t get enough of Gael Monfils and Elina Svitolina. Rightfully so! The tennis power couple have time and time again proven why they’re the most iconic couple in the sport right now. From supporting each other since they first got together in 2019 to sharing fun banter, like debating over whose turn it is to “take care of Skai” their daughter during the Australian Open. The two are just adorable to watch. They’re not often on tour together, being on different tours, but they make it work together. But this time they’re both in California for the Indian Wells Open and are giving the fans all reasons to laugh out loud!

On Thursday, they were asked who takes longer to get ready, and Svitolina playfully teased Monfils for being late, saying he takes “40 minutes to get up from the bed” and then rushes at the last minute. Monfils defended himself, claiming he’s quicker, but Svitolina wasn’t buying it, pointing out that while he dresses fast, his overall prep takes ages – “one minute dressing up but then preparation is like forty minutes.” Gael even joked that he wakes up before Svitolina and challenged fans to check his next YouTube vlog to see who’s telling the truth, quipping, “You’re going to see on my next vlog on YouTube, guys. Then you know who’s lying!”

In another conversation with the BNP Paribas Instagram, Monfils and Svitolina discussed who has the highest screen time. Monfils noted, “It depends on what, because screen time for you is phone. With the phone it’s her 100 percent.” However, he quickly countered by revealing his gaming habits, “The thing is I’m a gamer. I’m gaming a lot so it’s matching.” This put him on par with Svitolina.

Svitolina humorously described them as equally bad with screens” because Monfils is hooked on gaming, specifically ‘Call of Duty,’ while she spends time on her laptop and phone. She admitted, “I have some things to do on my laptop as well, but on my phone as well.” Monfils confessed she might be “more social,” but his gaming habits level the playing field.

It’s clear that this dynamic duo is neck and neck in the screen time stakes, but who will ultimately claim that title? Only these two can answer that! For now, we know that Gael certainly has the secret to keeping his partner happy!

Monfils shares his secret to a “happy wife”

Earlier this week, when asked who made the first move, Gael and Elina couldn’t help but dive into a playful argument. Monfils kicked it off, saying, “It’s tricky, this one because I think I said I love you first. But the first move is a little bit tricky to be honest because it’s about who sent the first text.” Svitolina quickly chimed in, laughing, “I didn’t send you any text. What are you talking about. You text me in New York, you text me in Beijing. And in Paris.” Monfils countered with a grin, “Not the first text,” but Svitolina was adamant, “But the first text exactly.”

As the banter continued, Monfils humorously accepted the blame, embracing the “happy wife, happy life” mantra. He quipped, “Apparently, it’s me. I take it you know, happy wife, happy life. I take all the credit, and for guys who are watching us, never disagree with your wife. There’s plenty battle that you can win. Tell her you say I love you first, tell her you didn’t text her first, make her happy.” Svitolina playfully concluded, “Pick your battles, pick your fights,” leaving both of them in stitches.

They began dating in 2019, got engaged two years later, and tied the knot in July 2021. In May 2022, they announced they were expecting their first child, and Svitolina gave birth to their baby girl, Skai, in October 2022. Monfils once noted that he shifted his priorities, saying, “Win? No! To be honest with you, it’s not even a dream to win the tournament. My dream is to be old with a lot of kids and to be healthy.” He emphasized, “I tell you my dream is to have an unbelievable family. Tennis is cool. Of course, you want a gold dream, whatever. But my dream is out there.”

With their careers thriving this duo continues to inspire fans with their love, laughter, and shared success both on and off the court. Now competing at the same tournament is a double delight for this charming couple, allowing them to spend more quality time together. Do you think we’ll get more wholesome and hilarious content from these two?
