Things have become interesting in Seattle’s camp. The team made it known in 2025 that they intended to change their WR pairing, and everything was going their way. Until now. The Seahawks have already traded Geno Smith to the Raiders and are about to trade DK Metcalf soon. So far, speculations suggest that some teams have approached Seattle about their WR, but! There’s always a twist in the NFL story. And here’s the twist: DK Metcalf’s conditions for this trade.
Metcalf’s 66 receptions for 992 yards and 5 touchdowns in 2024 have helped him establish a solid reputation in the NFL. Everyone knows that the WR has tremendous potential and can work miracles with a great QB. But is his potential currently worth $30 million? Well, this has been a big question this week since the WR made it a requirement for the deal. DK claims he is a terrific player who should be paid at least $30 million each year. That is a really big demand, but this is not it. There’s another significant demand that the WR has in his mind.

The NFL is obviously played in a variety of locations globally, and everyone knows that weather has a significant impact on these games. While some players thrive in cold, snowy conditions, others struggle. For Metcalf, the cold weather has been a major issue. While there are no specific numbers available, it is evident that he dislikes playing in that weather. And this is why the man has put forward the condition of not playing in it. The update about him was given by Dianna Russini claiming: “The price to trade for Seahawks wide receiver DK Metcalf has changed. Metcalf prefers to play in a warm climate in addition to receiving a new contract worth $30+ million annually.”
Woah! Metcalf’s trade has truly taken a big turn with these demands. But, this is not the first time a player has asked something similar. These incidents have escalated significantly in recent years, and even Shedeur Sanders has made the same request for the NFL Draft 2025. Due to his current preference of not playing in the cold weather, the rising star is considering withdrawing his name from the draft. DK Metcalf’s demand has made the trade a difficult decision for other teams. And now it looks like this was the reason why Seattle compensated in the trade.
The Seahawks reduced their demand for DK Metcalf
The Seahawks initially agreed to trade DK Metcalf for first and third round draft selections. The team believed that this was the best they could have for the WR, but it did not go as planned. Other clubs, although reaching out to the Seahawks, believed the trade was unbalanced, which is why it is yet to be finalized. But, Metcalf has now imposed two major demands, upon which you will see that the deal has gotten too difficult.
Seattle recognized this from a distance and made the trade demand for a second round pick. As a result, the other team could see the transaction as a win-win situation. But, for the Seahawks, this means they will skip the entire first day in order to acquire an additional pick. So they’ll need a lot of success in the NFL Draft to make this trade pay off. Another reason why the Seattle could have done this is because of the ongoing trades in the league.
If you are actively following the trades, you would know that many big names in the league have gone for a much lesser demand. For instance, DeAndre Hopkins going for a conditional fifth-round pick, Davante Adams going for a conditional third-round pick, etc. All of these cases show how the WR’s value has decreased over time.
Until now, talk has been that numerous teams are seeking to get Malcalf, but nothing has been official. The Raiders, Patriots, Chargers, Chiefs, and even the Steelers are interested in the trade. If any of these clubs pick Metcalf, we might witness a big QB-WR tandem. It will be interesting to watch where the WR goes next. Only time will tell, so till then share your predictions below.
