It seems like the 49ers are doing all they can to secure Brock Purdy’s future at least from their side. See, the Niners have already handed out huge contracts to Nick Bosa ($170M) and Brandon Aiyuk ($120M). They also traded Deebo Samuel to make more space in their salary cap. But it still wasn’t enough for them to hold onto their veteran defensive tackle Maliek Collins. Kyle Shanahan’s team has just announced another roster move that could give them more relief in cap space.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter just now reported that Collins is out of the Bay Area before the free agency market opens on Monday. This makes Collins eligible not only to talk with other franchises but also to test himself in free agency.
Well, Collins’ exit isn’t the only news coming out of the Bay Area today. It seems the 49ers have found themselves in a difficult position in contract negotiations with Brock Purdy. Reports suggest the 49ers are playing hardball and are starting their offers at $45M per year for Purdy.
