Bo Bassett is simply phenomenal, no? After all, just look at his high school record. Born to Bill and Karissa Bassett on August 2025, 2006, the mat prodify has been one of the best high school standouts this season. The Pennsylvania-born won his first World Championship at just the age of 6 and was “always thinking about wrestling” and other than the gym, “there was no place [he would] rather be.” Perhaps that’s why many universities wanted the athlete to sign into their wrestling programmes.
Basset had himself unveiled an extensive list of 80 college programs in December 2023, creating suspense over where the young wrestler would go? The decision finally came in February 2025, when he announced on FloWrestling that he was going to join the University of Iowa men’s wrestling program, Bo Bassett is officially a Hawkeye, but that is for the class of 2026. Yes, there’s time to a freshman basset, but what and where is he now?
Is Bo Bassett a junior?
The Hawk is currently a Bishop, meaning to say that he is currently an 11th grader in the Bishop McCort High School, Johnstown, Pennsylvania. But there’s also an interesting story to him being there; Bill Basset, Bo’s father, while talking to the American Federation for Children, tells how covid nearly destroyed the public school’s below-average quality and his son would be done with assignments in 15 mins; he needed a teacher.
This is where McCort came in, Basset senior explained,”He kept hearing you have to get your son at McCort, but honestly, we didn’t think we could afford it.” Despite that they visited the school and “Bo and my whole family loved the school, the atmosphere, and everything we saw.” Some financial aids and scholarships later, Bo was in and still is, almost finishing his high school Junior year. This is also where the high school wrestler became a national wrestler.
What is Bo Bassett’s national ranking?
While practicing his moves for the Bishop McCort, the 145 lbs. wrestler was selected for both the Freestyle and Greco-Roman Cadet World Teams at 45 kg. In both divisions of the 2021 Cadet Nationals, winning all matches. Ever since then, he has created a reputation and hype among the wrestling fans, and also planted a great position in the national rankings.
The McCort wrestler is currently ranked No. 4 in the nation for high school pound-for-pound wrestlers by FloWrestling, truly a commendable achievement for the 18-year-old and that is not even his biggest one when you consider his record.
Bo Bassett’s Wrestling record
Every time Basset steps on the mat, there’s a certain pressure on him and that is not just about winning the match; same goes for his opponent; their only goal is not to defeat the Pennsylvania native but to something else; something that is a key factor to his legacy, his undefeated record.
It has been 111 matches since the McCort High Schooler has lost a match. Yup, you heard that right; Bo Bassett stand undefeated for a freaking hundred and eleven matches as of 9th March 2025. The likes of Drew Miller, Chase Bell, Jacob Wilson, Luke Jordan, Arment Waltenbaugh and Cooper Hornack have not been able to defeat the man with so many wrestling achievements.
Bo Bassett’s wrestling achievements
Apart from being unbeaten, Basset made history in 2022 when he tied the record by winning his 8th Pennsylvania Junior Wrestling State Championship. He has several national tournament titles to his name like the Ironman, Super 32, and Powerade. He defeated Aden Valencia of California in the U20 US Open to win freestyle title at 65 kgs. At the previous World Championships, he went a combined 9-0 and scored more than his competitors by 86-12.
Basset has also shared the stage with Basketball legend James LeBron when the two were named Sports Illustrated Kids’ SportsKid of the Year alongside Bryce Harper. Recently Basset got another title to himself when he won the AA Finals in the 2025 PIAA State Wrestling Championship in 145 Kg. Now he prepares to write an even greater legacy for the Hawkeyes when he joins them for the 2026 season.
