With a career record of 11 victories and only 1 defeat, Mauricio Ruffy will be embracing the Octagon again at UFC 313 as he crosses paths with King Green. Ruffy has been a phenomenal force within MMA, with back-to-back wins inside the promotion. Riding a six-fight winning streak, the Brazilian will be looking to maintain his dominance. His life has been amazing so far—from the lunches of the middle class to becoming one of the best talents in the promotion. However, do you have any idea that the fighter used to be a bodyguard for a Chinese millionaire?
Yes, you heard that right – before embracing his MMA career or we could say when he was struggling to become a fighter, his close friend Flavio Alvaro introduced him to a Chinese millionaire, who was ready to invest and nurture up-and-coming fighters. Ruffy immediately started working for him as he flew countless hours between Sao Paulo and Taiwan for his new gig.
According to the fighter, he never really understood what they were trying to speak but he tried his best to do his job, “I was his bodyguard and would go to a bunch of gyms there to train,” Ruffy said. “He paid us good money and invested in our careers, but I couldn’t wait to get back to Brazil. It was really tough not actually engaging in any conversation for three months. I’ve learned a lot there, though. In general, it was a great experience.”
Ruffy spent a total of two months in Taiwan, a couple of weeks in Hong Kong, and a month in Spain, Ruffy returned home, ready to pursue his career as a full-time mixed martial artist once again. Well, the Chinese millionaire’s investments appear to be working miracles as Ruffy is closing the gap between him and the top talent of the welterweight division.
Well, the Brazilian fighter is committed to delivering in his upcoming UFC bouts as well. In his latest confession, he promised a banger at UFC 313.

With his third appearance at UFC, the Brazilian welterweight fighter will be looking to extend his winning streak. Fully focused on the 32-16 fighter, Ruffy has promised that he would deliver a banger of a performance, “I’ve envisioned this fight for a long time,” Ruffy said. “It’s a surprise that it came so soon. This is only my third fight in the UFC, and the second time I’m opening the main card — this time on maybe the biggest UFC of the year.”
He further added, “I’m happy with everything God has given me. The impression I have is that I’m living in a year that an athlete would take 10 years to live. I’m very happy and grateful for this fight.” Commenting about King Green’s evolution as a fighter, Ruffy emphasized he doesn’t see any improvements, “If you get his fights 10 years ago, he’s the same fighter. What he’s changed a bit is fighting more on a southpaw stance, but our team has mapped out everything you can imagine.”
With victory in his eyes, Mauricio Ruffy will be stepping inside the cage with the intent to breach the top 10s of his division. What are your expectations from the fight? State your thoughts in the comments below.
