Concerning rumors about Trevor Lawrence have been making big waves. The young QB has not performed to his full potential, and rumors are that the Jaguars may trade him. Many other teams are eager to add a young QB, and Lawrence may be the perfect fit. Talk about market demand. This is why the scenario remains confusing if the trade is going to happen or not. But, fortunately for all Jaguars’ fans, GM James Gladstone has come out to put an end to these rumors.
And now one thing is definitely clear: The Jaguars are not going to let Trevor Lawrence go. Nuh-uh, not after three years of coaching and spending money on the QB. How can they trade the person who they claim is their franchise quarterback?
Gladstone talked about these rumors after appearing on SiriusXM NFL Radio. There, the man indicated that the team is aware of Lawrence’s capabilities and is not overlooking them. And one or two terrible seasons do not reflect a feisty quarterback’s actual potential: “I don’t think we have seen the best of him yet.” I mean, he’s not wrong. Some things require time.
“I don’t think we have seen the best of him yet.” @Jaguars GM James Gladstone talked about building around Trevor Lawrence and how he’s always viewed him as a franchise quarterback.

Gladstone believes that the best is yet to come for the quarterback, and that the new head coach, Liam Coen, may be able to bring it out. The GM also highlighted some future intentions, including how the team intends to take an aggressive approach in 2025. He believes that Liam Coen’s strong philosophy for the game can “make Trevor Lawrence a better version of himself.” Not only that, but Gladstone believes that by 2025, the squad will be fully committed to forming a team around Lawrence.
The young QB might be able to do a lot more new things if that happens. The Jaguars will be hoping to overcome their 4-13 season and return much stronger next year. Trevor Lawrence will lead the squad, but the approach will be very different from before. Gladstone has stated that they plan to make significant changes this year and choose some high-profile players in the NFL Draft.
This allows them to form a well-balanced team that works well together. To open up cap space for fresh additions, the team has already cut major players like Evan Engram, Devin Duvernay, and Ronald Darby. Looks like the Jags are ready for that overhaul. But what if Lawrence fails to improve his game this season?
Despite believing in Trevor Lawrence, the Jaguars have a big backup
James Gladstone mentioned something valuable on the radio: If you gain some experience, then there will be scars as a proof. And this is the exact situation with Trevor Lawrence. The quarterback may have done everything he could in the last couple of seasons, but it wasn’t enough. He will be looking forward to pushing his limits, which might make his 2025 season a make or break year for him. And if he fails to capitalize this moment, Gladstone has already called in John Wolford as backup.
With 7 years of experience, John Wolford is an excellent quarterback. The 29-year-old had a turbulent career and was only on the Jaguars’ practice squad. But hard effort always pays off, and in Wolford’s case, it did so within three months. He joined the practice squad in December 2024 and was officially signed by the team in February 2025. John’s signing has sparked widespread speculation about who will be the starting quarterback. Two QBs for one QB1 spot? Looks like some drama is brewing!
But the GM’s recent comments make it clear that Trevor Lawrence will take over as QB1 in 2025. The 25-year-old would feel pressure to play well so that Gladstone does not need to use his backup. It’ll be intriguing to see how the QB performs under Liam Coen.
