Jake Paul has promised that for her upcoming July 11 trilogy fight against Katie Taylor, Amanda Serrano will become “the highest-paid woman in sports history for a single event.” The previous record, according to Paul, was held by former UFC and WWE star Ronda Rousey, who got paid just south of $5 million to face Amanda Nunes back in 2016.
Paul’s ‘Most Valuable Promotions’, of course, represents Serrano, who has signed a lifetime deal with them. And while this trilogy card, which would be an all-female card, would be a big achievement not just for Serrano but for female boxing in general, the GWOAT, Claressa Shields, has some harsh words for her Puerto Rican counterpart.
“I only talk to undefeated fighters! If you’re not undefeated, please don’t talk to me! I’m bout to call Mayweather ,” Claressa Shields wrote on X. To this, a fan claimed that MMA superstar and her long-time rival, Cris Cyborg, had called Serrano the GWOAT. “You see cyborg calling serrano the gwoat? You gotta step down and get at her,” the fan wrote. We cannot find this quote attributed to Cyborg, but ‘T-Rex’ remained undeterred and laughed off the prospect of Serrano being the GWOAT. “She not undefeated either ,” Shields added.

Shields, of course, is undefeated and has a pro boxing record of 16-0, while Serrano is 47-3 in her career so far, with two of those losses coming to Taylor. But on the other hand, Shields is dealing with her own issues.
Claressa Shields facing suspension over a banned substance
Claressa Shields is probably the greatest female boxer of all time. The Flint, Michigan native has been an absolute trailblazer in female boxing. From becoming the first and so far only American boxer to win consecutive Olympic gold medals (in 2012 and 2016) to holding so many championships in so many weight classes that it would take way too long to describe them all, Shields has done it all.
But, the 29-year-old finds her reputation in dire straits at the moment as she is facing suspension after her last fight- a unanimous decision win over Danielle Perkins earlier this last month. After the fight, it was revealed that ‘T-Rex’ tested positive in an oral sample for marijuana, which has led to her being handed a suspension by the Michigan Unarmed Combat Commission from fighting in the state for the time being.
Claressa Shields has maintained that she did not ingest marijuana and claims that the positive test may be because of second-hand smoke she inhaled at the venue. “The place [Dort Financial Center] reeked of marijuana. And then, before I got to do the mouth swab, everybody was hugging and kissing me in Flint. Everybody there—my cousins, sister, brother, friends—everybody was hugging and kissing me. And I know some boxers don’t stop and greet the fans, but I’m not one of them. I hugged and kissed everybody back,” she told Tamron Hall in a recent interview.
Shields has appealed the suspension and has thirty days to clear her name. What do you think about Claressa Shields’ take on Amanda Serrano-Katie Taylor 3?
