“Roses are red, violets are blue, March 1st sounds like AND THE NEW .” Lamont Roach Jr. shared this playful poem on X, directed at his opponent, Gervonta Davis, on Valentine’s Day, about 15 days before their showdown on March 1 at Barclays. While no one’s hand was raised after their intense showdown, Roach certainly brought “the heat” he promised. Not only did he move up a weight class to challenge the undefeated WBA lightweight champion, but he also made sure Gervonta Davis felt every second of the tough fight. If referee Steve Willis had made the knockdown call in round 9 after the controversial knee, the 29-year-old would have been crowned the new WBA Lightweight champion, and Gervonta Davis would have had a loss on his record. Unfortunately, that moment slipped through his fingers. Now, Lamont Roach isn’t exactly singing a happy tune about the final verdict—who could blame him?
Fast forward to yesterday, and The Ring Magazine reported that Lamont Roach Jr.’s lawyer, Greg Smith, had sent a detailed four-page letter to the New York State Athletic Commission’s (NYSAC) Executive Director Matt Delaglio, requesting the commission overturn the majority draw and declare Roach “the true winner of the bout.” Moreover, the fact that the draw will likely cost him millions is weighing on his mind. With so much on his plate, it’s clear he’s feeling a bit down. But just when it seemed like everything was going south, it looks like the 29-year-old might have something to smile about. “15k? That’s a fail. Should be 150k +” one use commented. What could it be about?
Earlier today, a post from Lefty Loading made waves in the boxing community. The post read, “Lamont Roach Jr has gained over 15K followers since his fight with Gervonta Davis last Saturday ”.The post shared a screenshot showing Roach’s X follower count skyrocketing from 9,160 to 24.7K after his showdown at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn. This means that since his impressive show against Tank, his follower count on X has seen a more than 150% rise.

His follower count on Instagram has also risen to 183K, which before the bout was at about 80K. Not only that. Now, that seems a remarkable rise in Roach’s popularity. Maybe it’s the Tank effect, or maybe his performance was just that impressive. Regardless, Lamont Roach Jr. has now officially entered the zeitgeist, not just as a boxing figure but also as a popular athlete. According to a report from Brunch Boxing, the “Tank vs. Roach event has surpassed 3 billion impressions across all social media and streaming platforms.” If that wasn’t enough, “Davis vs. Roach had a search volume of over 500K, more than double WWE Elimination Chamber, which included a heel turn by John Cena,” the report added.
Now, with a surge in followers, it seems Lamont Roach has earned a moment to bask in the spotlight and reflect on how far he’s come. And fans, no doubt, took notice of his impressive effort, too.
Lamont Roach Jr. no longer a lesser-known name after the Gervonta Davis bout

Another user suggested, “He needs to IMMEDIATELY drop this lawyering talk and complaining. He needs to ride the wave of support he’s getting straight to the rematch and be at his best.” Here, the user advised the 29-year-old to shift focus from the ongoing NYSAC complaint and instead channel his energy toward a rematch to prove he’s worthy of the win. Simply impressed by Roach’s performance, one user commented, “.” However, as the saying goes, every coin has two sides. While many praised him, there were still a few who threw shade. One critic bluntly commented, “Still a bi**h.”
Lastly, reminding everyone of how skilled Lamont Roach Jr. was even before his professional bout with Gervonta Davis, one user commented, “Gained all the tank haters that said Roach was trash before the fight not knowing Roach is actually a great fighter lls.” Despite holding a 24-1 record before the WBA Lightweight championship bout, Roach had been underestimated by many. But the March 1st fight spoke volumes about his in-ring skills, and it definitely made waves in the combat sports world.
With that said, after his strong performance, do you believe Lamont Roach Jr. will get another title shot against Gervonta Davis? And if he does, who do you think will have the upper hand?
