Rich Paul & Kleiman Under Fire as $8 Million Rapper Blames NBA Agents for Star Players’ “Unavailability”

4 min read

The NBA is supposed to be a league of superstars, right? The fans pay top dollar, clear their schedules, cancel plans and turn on their TVs expecting to see the biggest names in basketball face each other. Instead, they are greeted with injury reports, load management excuses and star players chilling on the sidelines in fancy designer fits.

Rapper turned sports commentator, Mase has had enough. Yes, that’s Mase—the same Harlem rapper who once ran with Diddy and rapped on some of the biggest Bad Boy hits of the late ‘90s. With an estimated net worth of $8 million and a sharp eye for the game, Mase has been watching the NBA like a seasoned analyst and is refusing to accept the excuses for why the top players keep sitting out.

Mase didn’t just casually mention this in passing, he went off. Mase questioned why the NBA stars are unavailable and threw a jab at their accessibility. While in conversation with @itiswhatitis_talk Mase while describing what the players say, said, “I’m unavailable,” then he said, “Is his phone on DND?…. Like what’s really going on, I want to understand that” “They were unavailable….When they’re not available, what are they on, a field trip?…. I’m gonna ask Rich Paul and a few other people, Kleiman and people like that. showing that the agents are somehow involved in the famous disappearing act.

The NBA today is loaded with talent, but it’s also loaded with “load management,” “precautionary rest,” and players taking games off just because. It’s gotten to the point where fans don’t even know if the stars they paid to see will actually play until the game starts. That’s a problem, and Mase thinks he knows who’s really behind it.

Are NBA Agents Controlling Load Management?

It is common knowledge in modern basketball that Rich Paul is not just an agent, he is a powerhouse. The Klutch Sports CEO represents superstars like LeBron James, Anthony Davis, and a smorgasbord of other NBA stars. Meanwhile, Kleinman is another powerhouse who has some serious pull at CAA Sports, working with elite names like Kevin Durant. It can be said that these guys aren’t just negotiating contracts, they are shaping careers.

Mase believes that they are also shaping when these players actually play. He is convinced that agents such as Paul and Kleiman are encouraging their clients to sit out more games, keeping them fresh for the playoffs but leaving the fans frustrated in the process, making the league’s regular season start to feel like a warm-up for the real action.

The frustration that Mase echoes are the sentiments of many fans. The NBA has implemented new rules to limit excessive rest for healthy players, but load management remains a hot topic. When stars are missing more games than ever, and when marquee matchups lose their luster due to last-minute absences, it raises an uncomfortable question: Has the power shifted too far away from the game itself? Well, we don’t know that but it sure is frustrating.

As Mase continues to call out this trend, his words are resonating with fans who want to see the best players on the floor, not on the injury report. “Is his phone on DND?” might have been a rhetorical question, but the message behind it is clear—the NBA needs its stars to show up, and if agents are the reason they’re not, something has to change.
