‘It’s a Boy’: Spencer Danielson Gives Life Update While Crisis Strikes Boise State

5 min read

Nothing tops the joy of becoming a parent, and Spencer Danielson knows that better than anyone right now. The head coach of Boise State Broncos just welcomed his newborn baby boy. And if there’s one thing sports figures love more than winning, it’s celebrating their kids as their greatest achievements. Just ask Deion Sanders, who is not only making a name for himself on the field but also creating his legacy at home. Now, with baby no.3 in the Danielson family, the coach is filled with nothing but gratitude. While football may be his passion, his family is his foundation.

Well, Boise State’s season had its twists and turns, but this season for Spencer Danielson, nothing tops more than welcoming his son, William Ethan Danielson, into the world. He’s already a dad to two daughters, Eleanor and Rosalie, but now he has a son too. And he’s over the moon about it. Hitting Instagram with this heartwarming news, Spencer shares his happiness with fans, writing, “It’s a boy! Raechel was a rockstar as always! The Bronco Brotherhood just got bigger! Thank you, Jesus , William Ethan Danielson .”

And let’s face it — this baby is already capturing hearts. Spencer recently shared an incredibly cute photo of himself holding his newborn, beaming like a man who just clinched a championship. But he didn’t miss the chance to acknowledge the real hero behind the scenes. Because, yes, being a proud father is wonderful, but none of that is possible without a mother’s blood, sweat, and resilience. Raechel truly deserves all the accolades, and Spencer made sure to highlight that. With a new member in the Bronco family, Spencer now has even more motivation. Who knows? Perhaps in a few decades, we might witness young William Ethan suiting up in Boise blue, carrying on the family tradition!

Spencer Danielson’s devotion to his family isn’t just apparent — it’s the core of everything he does. To him, football and family are intertwined. It’s common to see his wife, Raechel, and their two daughters spending time around the Boise State facility, turning the program into more than just a workplace, but a home.

Talking about their relationship and beautiful kids Spencer Danielson said last year, “Me and my wife Raechel are going to be married ten years in April; we met in college.” “I chased him around, at least that’s what he says,” Raechel joked. “He was very persistent.” “We have two beautiful little girls, three-and-a-half-year-old Eleanor and two-year-old Rosalie,” Spencer added.

The way Spencer Danielson speaks about his family makes it clear that they are his top priority. With the recent addition of baby William Ethan, their house has become even more vibrant. Not only is Boise State’s head coach focused on building a successful football program, but he is also creating a lasting legacy on and off the field. But it’s not all as shiny as it seems, as Spencer enjoys a high point in his personal life; challenges may lie ahead in his professional life.

Spencer Danielson stands on a crossroad

Boise State has worked hard to gain recognition in a competitive sport dominated by the ‘Power’ conferences. In 2024, they made a breakthrough, with Ashton Jeanty playing a pivotal role. The exceptional running back not only impressed with his performance but also set new records and received prestigious awards. In his first solo game, he lit up Georgia Southern Eagles, racking up 267 yards and six touchdowns — a school record that stood for 45 years! Jeanty finished the season with 2,601 rushing yards, 29 touchdowns, a Maxwell, a Doak Walker, and All-American honors. But now, his time in Boise is over, and the Broncos are staring down life without him.

Now, Spencer McLaughlin of Locked On College Football summed up the challenge: “They have to be able to be more successful running the football, and all of a sudden, they’re going to try to do that without one of the best college running backs we have seen in the last 10–15 years… that’s a tall order.” Boise is losing a key player, a real game-changer. So, either Malik Sherrod explodes onto the scene, or Maddux Madsen makes a huge improvement. McLaughlin sees the latter as more likely: “Maddux Madsen has to become an even better version of himself… because asking Sherrod to run for over 1,500 yards after his injury history? That’d just be a lot.”

Sherrod, who transferred from Fresno State to Boise, is expected to be the main running back for the team, but his health is a major concern. He missed a significant amount of time last season due to various injuries, some of which occurred during practice. Boise State is relying on him to stay healthy, but it’s a risky gamble. On the other hand, Madsen will have to demonstrate his ability to perform well in crucial moments. Although his stats, like a 62.4% completion rate and 3,018 passing yards, appear impressive, the Penn State game highlighted his weaknesses. He faced pressure, took three sacks, and Boise State’s playoff hopes ended with a 31-14 defeat.

Despite having talent, the Broncos suffered a setback by losing a standout player like Jeanty, which created a significant gap in their offense. If Madsen can improve and Sherrod remains injury-free, they might be able to navigate through the challenges. However, if not, Boise State’s promising 2024 season could turn into a reality check in 2025.
