More Allegations Against Gervonta Davis as Lamont Roach Jr. Demands Disqualification to New York Commission

WBA lightweight champion Gervonta Davis defended his title against Lamont Roach Jr. by the skin of his teeth on Saturday night in New York. What was supposed to be an easy victory for the Baltimore native turned out to be the toughest fight of his career. Roach met Davis in the center of the ring and made Tank regret the day he chose him as an opponent. The fight eventually came to a majority decision draw! However, Davis continues to face the repercussions of his lackluster performance. Still, the draw itself hasn’t caused Davis as much of an issue as the unusual move he pulled during the ninth round of the bout. By now, everyone knows what happened!

After Roach countered the 30-year-old with a punch, a moment later, Davis took a knee. But, shockingly, he ran to his corner as his team wiped his face. It was later revealed that grease from his hair had made its way into his eye, causing him problems with his vision. Regardless of the reason, though, he was never punished for the move, which should have been a knockdown.

For some odd reason, referee Steve Willis started the 10 count but later overlooked the obvious offense, and now, it’s causing Gervonta Davis a whole lot of trouble. Earlier this week, the New York State Athletic Commission stepped in to reveal they are investigating the incident, which may result in the decision getting overturned in Roach’s favor.

However, the latest reports suggest Roach has asked the NYSAC to turn the decision in his favor. According to a report from Dan Rafael of Fight Freaks Unite, Roach’s attorney, Greg Smith, sent a letter to NYSAC executive director Matt Delaglio on Tuesday to review the fight. The report also revealed the four-page letter’s exact demands.

The letter asked the commission to declare Roach “the true winner of the bout—either via TKO due to Mr. Davis removing himself from the Bout or being disqualified for carrying an illegal irritant into the ring, or via decision after scores have been adjusted to reflect the knockdown.” However, that’s not the end of the story, in other words, allegations.

According to the letter, Calvin Ford, Davis’ trainer, wiping Davis’ face is a rule violation and is grounds for disqualification. Roach’s attorney argues that had it not been for Willis waving off the knockdown, Roach would have won the fight by decision. It’s unclear whether this move from Roach would convince NYSAC to change the outcome of the fight.

However, both boxers have expressed interest in fighting in a rematch, though when the fight will happen is currently uncertain. Nevertheless, the question is, what do others have to say about Davis’ knee?

George Kambosos Jr. speaks out after Gervonta Davis vs. Lamont Roach Jr.

Davis and George Kambosos Jr. have had their run-ins on social media, and from the looks of what they have said to each other, it’s clear there’s no love lost between the two fighters. So, after Davis’ fight, Kambosos didn’t waste much time sharing his opinion on the now infamous knee and the entire fight.

“Ouch, there goes the perfect record!!! That was a knockdown!! that ultimately made the difference!” Kambosos said, clarifying as far he was concerned, it was a knockdown, and it ended up affecting the fight. “The dwarf had a go at me for my losses to Haney and Loma, time to look at yourself Wankie Tankie, great work Roach. Respect!! Tankie the JIG is up!”

That being said, it appears Gervonta Davis can’t catch a break. It’s yet to be seen whether the appeal makes any difference. But if it does, Davis’ career trajectory will definitely take a hit. What’s your take on the whole situation?
