Tom Brady Throws Bill Belichick Under the Bus for Patriots’ Failures After Ex-HC’s Lombardi Rename Request

20 years! Twenty years is a long time to tune in together very well, at least to some extent. However, still Tom Brady and Bill Belichick sometimes failed to connect in the games, the example of which the former QB shared on Thursday.

The NFL is going to see their another historic Super Bowl in February. However, this event made analyst Colin Cowherd remember some good old times of Tom Brady and his Super Bowl appearances. Hence, during an appearance on The Herd with Colin Cowherd, TB12 was asked to share what happened in that 2017 matchup.

We already know the Atlanta Falcons had an exciting matchup with the New England Patriots on February 5, 2017. So, Cowherd didn’t miss a chance to bring up an interesting pattern he noticed in Tom Brady’s Super Bowl appearances. He pointed out that Brady’s team often started slow, almost like a heavyweight boxer feeling out the first round. Hence, the analyst wondered if that was part of a strategy – maybe something Bill Belichick instilled – or if it was just nerves.

To which, Tom Brady smiled and replied, “Yeah, it was not intentional, let me say that. We weren’t trying to go out there and s–ck in the first quarter, but most of the time we did. There’s definitely a little nerves. I think both teams are feeling each other out, and we never really got behind too much. The Atlanta one kind of got away from us there in the first half.

But that’s not all he said. Besides portraying Atlanta’s strength in that game, Tom Brady also subtly blamed Bill Belichick and overall team’s preparation in such battles. He expressed, “But I think for the most part, we just didn’t execute the plan exactly the way we wanted. You’re going up against a team that’s got a lot of good players, and they’ve got a lot of juice and energy. There’s a lot in the stadium. It does take a little bit of time to settle into that game.”

Now that sounds like Tom Brady himself, as most of the time he tries to keep things grounded, looking for perfection in every moment. Nevertheless, the Patriots later surged and won that Super Bowl with 34-28 in OT. Belichick’s strategy and Brady’s play helped them win that one and their other ones too. So, that’s the reason why the former NFL HC wants to rename the Lombardi trophy. In the “Let’s Go!” podcast this week in a conversation with co-host Jim Gray, he expressed, “Maybe they should name it the Brady Trophy. He won seven of them.
