Bellamy recalled an incident from Jordan’s legendary 1995 comeback when MJ shook the sports world by declaring, “I’m back,” and rejoining the Chicago Bulls. On March 29, 1995, Jordan went to New York and dropped an effortless 55 points on the Knicks at Madison Square Garden. Let me remind you, it was a performance that instantly declared his return. But for Bellamy, the real eye-opener came after the game.
Later that night, he and Jordan hit a club in New York City. And that’s when Bellamy got his reality check. It proved no matter how famous you are, standing next to MJ makes you just another guy in the room. In this particular case, the guy happens to be Bellamy. He said, “We get to the club and this is when I realize I’m no longer famous…I’m a civilian, I’m not famous” And mind you, this wasn’t some random up-and-coming comic talking. Bellamy was already a big deal in Hollywood. What didn’t he have? Money, recognition, and enough clout to walk into any VIP section? Checked!
To say the least, things got worse for Bellamy from then on. And Former NBA player Jayson Williams just happens to be the man who delivered the final blow. While completely ignoring Bellamy’s status, White Chocolate turned to him and said, “Dude, Bill, Bill… Bill, can you take a picture of us for Mike?” Man! He must have been completely speechless. Then he added, “Now I’m a photographer.” At that moment, Bellamy had two choices. Either stand his ground and remind everyone he was a celebrity himself or accept his new role as a photographer. And he chose the latter option. Let’s be honest here, when Michael Jordan is in the building, everybody else becomes background noise.
