After experiencing several delays and disappointments, we are nearly there. The stage is set – Terence Crawford and Canelo Alvarez will finally face off on September 13 in Las Vegas. It is a dream fight, a dream that almost every boxing fan has been eagerly anticipating for years now. While the build-up to this much-anticipated bout started with excitement, lately, it has become rather dull.
Rather than discussing the magnitude of the fight and how it will propel the sport to the next level, lately, the predictions have been only about one thing: Will Terence Crawford be able to overcome the massive weight disparity? While it has made the debate around the fight rather one-sided, the question is still very much valid.

Canelo Alvarez does have a massive size advantage on the Nebraskan, hence the scores who believe in him having an upper hand. Yesterday, the former vice president of Golden Boy Promotions and the man behind making Canelo a big name in the US, Roberto Diaz, added his voice to the ongoing debate. So what did he say?
During the official presser for the Gervonta Davis-Lamont Roach fight, FightHub TV got hold of Diaz, who is in Roach’s camp this time around. Amidst the conversation, the interviewer asked the veteran promoter whether he would have made this fight for Terence Crawford: “If you were in Crawford’s corner, would you have advised this fight for him?” For Diaz, it was a simple question as he replied, “I say yes, absolutely.” According to him, “There’s no bigger mountain to achieve for legacy” than this fight. In fact, the Sheer Sports Management president believes that “the pressure is more on Canelo.”
A lose-lose situation for Canelo Alvarez
He referred to the fact that the majority of predictions are already in favor of Canelo Alvarez. “So there’s nothing to lose,” for Crawford, “and if you win, that’s huge,” he added. However, Diaz believes that even though it is a big fight, it is Canelo’s camp that should be worried. He believes that the Mexican star is not naturally big; it is just that he has been at the weight for a longer time than Crawford.
In fact, Roberto Diaz thinks that, “Crawford’s actually the bigger guy, longer reach,” and people fail to notice that. So, if he was in Bud’s corner, he would make this fight in an instant. Because “You got to take these chances. You got to be one of those greats, remembered in history. This is what it’s all about,” declared Roberto Diaz.
Diaz once again highlighted the fact that “the pressure is more on Canelo.” And if he was in Canelo Alvarez’s camp, he might not have made the fight. “Because you’re damned if you do and you’re damned if you don’t. If you win, you knock him out, or you win, you’re supposed to because of the little guy, you won’t get the credit,” claimed Diaz, empathizing with Canelo’s predicament.
It is common knowledge that Canelo Alvarez was dodging this fight for a very long time. Undoubtedly, what Diaz stated in his interview must have been on his mind during all those years. However, when His Excellency Turki Alalshikh offers you unfathomable money, you can’t really say no, can you?
