The gap of four seconds and bang! Jordan Chiles’ life changed. On August 5 last year, she was the one with a wide smile, wearing the bronze medal, forming the all-Black podium for the first time in the history of women’s gymnastics in the Olympics. That evening she had no bounds of joy as she found the price of her relentless effort in putting everything in front on the mat. And also look at how she had her price! A sudden change in her score in the women’s floor exercise final catapulted her from the fifth-place finish to the third place, jumping over the Romanian rivals. But for her, the elation was short-lived.
In its judgment to decide the actual owner of the bronze medal in the women’s floor exercise event in the Paris Olympics, CAS ruled something unexpected. The institute said that Jordan’s coach was 4 seconds late to submit the inquiry that evening of August 5. So, CAS decided to overturn everything, including moving Jordan to fifth place again on the list. In Jordan’s memoir, I’m That Girl, the gymnast explained how that ruling impacted her initially.
Jordan Chiles actually wrote, “Suddenly, the car went quiet. I’m surprised everyone couldn’t hear the sound of my heart breaking, because it absolutely did, there in that back seat. My brain stopped even functioning within my body. Somewhere faraway, I could see my mom shaking her head, and hear her saying “Why? Why!“”
The report is developing…
