One day, you’re basking in the relatively carefree life of college and the next, you’re drowning in the harsh realities of growing up. Jobs, taxes, and those several uncertainties are just maddening! It’s a plot twist many of us struggle to navigate. Take Paige Bueckers, for instance. While her transition to adulthood may be playing out on a much grander stage, the things she talks about are all too relatable.

The UConn Huskies star recently graced the cover of GQ Magazine, all fitted out in a Saint Laurent suit. While she’s going through a phase of life we all have, there are a few major differences. As the article says–“Let’s just say her cash flow exceeds that of your average college student. ” Paige Bueckers is worth over $1.5 million through name, image, and likeliness deals. Deservedly so, too, considering she’s the biggest name in college basketball at the moment.

She talked about the struggles of growing up before she even graduated college. “You become an adult before you’re actually an adult.” Paige Bueckers said, and we get what she means! It isn’t easy, especially when you are a high-profile college athlete.

While financial independence can be empowering, it can be just as overwhelming. Imagine being the third most valuable female athlete in college sports. Imagine becoming the first NCAA athlete to secure an ownership stake in a professional sports league (Unrivaled). Sounds too good, right? But, now, also imagine having to make all those complex financial decisions that come along, tax implications, and investment strategies at a young age. And that’s why Bueckers has a financial advisor, because, “thank goodness, because taxes, that’s insane to me—I can’t believe I’m actually a part of that world now“.

Bueckers also mentioned how she hasn’t bought a car yet. The Huskies star drives around a Jeep Grand Cherokee, which she got from doing a sponsorship deal. However, she mentioned a dream car which might make her sponsor mad. When talking about why she hasn’t bought a car yet, Bueckers revealed what car she wants. “I do have a dream car, a Lamborghini Urus, but if I can get a car for free, why wouldn’t I do it?”

This is news that Fiat Chrysler or Jeep might not like. Lamborghini, a product of the Volkswagen group, is a direct competitor of Fiat and has dominated the market. VW Group has a $57 billion market cap as compared to Jeep’s $40 billion. However, it’s fine to dream big. Also, when you’re in Paige Bueckers’ shoes, those dreams are highly likely to become reality.

From what it looks like, however, Bueckers isn’t that big of a spender. The UConn point guard detailed her money habits and the one time she decided to splurge on something she wanted.

Paige Bueckers is more of a saver, details WNBA draft fit

We will all guess that the more famous and influential the athlete, the more money they will spend. But that doesn’t seem to be the case with star point guard Paige Bueckers though. The project’s number one overall pick in this year’s WNBA draft got candid about her spending habits.

After seeing nearly five years of dominance from the UConn star, the last thing we expected to hear was that she was frugal with her money. “I’m a saver,” she said when talking about expenditure. In fact, the only time that she remembered spending an exorbitant amount of money on something not that necessary was the 2024 WNBA draft outfit.

“I’d just played a whole healthy season,” Bueckers reasoned. It was a big deal for the NCAA star. Her injuries have been well-documented and never ending. So when it came time to support her seniors, Nika Muhl and Aaliyah Edwards, Paige Bueckers didn’t back down from expenses. “I told my stylist, Brittany Hampton, ‘I want to go crazy—whatever it is, just put the card down.’”

The cream-colored LV suit that she ended up wearing was very clean. The UConn star admitted that the price tag hurt, but it was still worth every penny considering how she stole the show!

“I knew I was steppin’ ,” Bueckers said, and she was. How she showed up to support her teammates who had been with her through injury was very heartwarming. It is inevitable that Paige Bueckers will get drafted this year if she decides to go pro. Whether she goes #1 or #2 is still in the air, but the odds are that she will top the draft. She is gonna enter a new chapter of her life, but knowing the UConn star, she’ll adapt quicker than anyone expects.
