NFL Rumors: Kevin O’Connell’s Vikings Eye $45M Decision Amid Sam Darnold’s Raiders Connection

2 min read

The Vikings lost their wild card playoff against the Rams and exited the 2024 season. Since then, they have been evaluating different moves to make changes that would take them a step further. And looks like their head coach Kevin O’Connell has come out with the right moves. It starts with keeping talented players in the team.

Their linebacker, Andrew Van Ginkel, playing his first year for the Vikes, had his best so far. In 17 regular season games this year, he recorded 2 interceptions for touchdowns, 11.5 sacks, 1 forced fumble, 19 QB hits, and 79 tackles (50 solo). His contract was set to expire in 2026. But the head coach wants to sign him to a 3-year $45 million contract extension. That’s great news!

While they are trying to keep players, they might have to enter the free market for a quarterback. Their QB Sam Darnold might go to Tom Brady‘s Raiders. The move hasn’t been confirmed yet. But reports suggest he might ride his 14-win regular season performance to newly appointed HC Pete Carroll‘s side in 2025.

Stay tuned. This story is developing.
