Last night Jordan Chiles and the rest of the UCLA Bruins delivered what can simply be called perfection in their routines. Yet unsurprisingly, neither Jordan nor any of her teammates got a 10. This has led to a wave of criticism from fans, who have been increasingly vocal about inconsistent judging across NCAA gymnastics this season. And leading the line of these detractors is none other than Mama Chiles.
Against Minnesota, Chile put on a near-flawless display, hitting every element with precision and grace. But when the final scores flashed, a sense of déjà vu set in—another routine that looked like a perfect 10 yet fell just short. Even the Brooklyn Moors fell prey to this unexpected scoring. This time, it wasn’t just fans who were frustrated. Gina Chiles, Jordan’s mother, voiced her sentiments on this as well.
Gina Chiles didn’t hold back her frustration, taking to social media to call out the scoring. She tweeted, highlighting Brooklyn Moors’ incredible performance, “THE 10-iest 9.975 I’ve ever seen! Currently adding the 10 from the judge from the other meet and the 10 from the judge this meet because there is no other solution.” Fans who experienced the NCAA season found agreement in her statement.
THE 10-iest 9.975 I’ve ever seen! Currently adding the 10 from the judge from the other meet and the 10 from the judge this meet cuzzzzzzz….there is no other solution. https://t.co/txOg8CSeAP

Among gymnasts who performed an organized routine with no errors, Moors received a score short of a perfect 10 despite a perfect floor routine in UCLA Bruins’ rotation 3, just like Jordan Chiles. On February 23, Jordan Chiles delivered a breathtaking floor routine, one that had power, grace, and precision. Despite battling a fever, she pushed through and was rightfully rewarded with a perfect 10.
Fast forward to the meet against Minnesota, and Chiles once again showcased her resilience. Rebounding from a fall on the uneven bars to deliver yet another spectacular floor performance. Brooklyn Moors matched her excellence, putting together a routine that had all the makings of a perfect 10. Yet, both gymnasts saw their scores stop just short at 9.975.
“ART. PURE BRUIN ART.” That’s how the Instagram handle of Planet of Gymnastics described the stunning performances. They should have been awarded a 10, and fans are roaring about this.
Calling out questionable scoring once again as fans rally behind Jordan!
The frustrated relationship between NCAA gymnastics judging and its fans has been ongoing. Remember when the sans from the LSU crowd strongly disapproved of the judging panel taking away an ideal score of 10 from Kailin Chio during her floor exercise competition on February 21? The same situation has happened.
While Jordan Chiles and Brooklyn Moors executed flawless routines, their scores stopped a small distance away from achieving a 10.0. What exactly are the judges deducting for? One fan summed it up perfectly: “Would love to see what the 9.95 judge deducted. The judging across the NCAA this year has been a total farce.” The confusion is understandable.
When routines appear flawless, it’s hard to justify even the smallest deduction. Even veteran sports commentator Kathy Johnson Clarke praised their brilliance, writing, “Like a breath of fresh air. Always inspires. Never disappoints.” A fitting tribute to gymnasts who have seamlessly balanced success in both elite and collegiate gymnastics.
Another fan pointed out the consistency in these scoring snubs, saying, “She & Jordan should’ve both gotten 10s, today & last weekend.” It’s not just a one-time issue; it’s becoming a pattern. One fan wrote, “Her routine and your daughter’s have been spectacular and elegant all season long, and they should’ve gotten a 10. But as you said, we can’t control what the judges do on either side, so we can only hope that one day they will get a 10.”
The hope is there, but so is the disappointment. And then there were the reactions that needed no explanation. Just pure emotion! “Once again, SHOULD’VE BEEN A 10!!!!!” Seeing Gina Chiles speaking up, one fan captured the moment best, writing, MAMA CHILES SPEAKS FACTS.”The demand for fair judging isn’t just noise. It’s a reflection of a sport that fans and athletes alike want to see improve.
And if routines like these aren’t getting 10s, what will? Let us know in the comments what you think.
