“He is really struggling with the emotion of, you know, not being competitive right now. He probably hasn’t had to deal with this since his, I don’t know, his first couple (of) years in the league”. Steve Kerr’s comments came back in early January as a video of Stephen Curry being visibly upset after a loss against the Miami Heat went viral. The losses that the Golden State Warriors kept accumulating earlier took its tool on the star scorer. Fortunately, that all changed after the team acquired Jimmy Butler and bolstered its offense. Recently, as the Warriors defeated the Mavericks by a 126-102 score, nothing but joy crossed Curry’s face. He was feeling the emotion, and he wanted to make that fact known. At the same time, he wanted to extract some ‘revenge’.
Stephen Curry participated in a Q&A session after the Warriors’ recent win. During the same, a reporter touched upon the player pulling out his iconic ‘Night-Night’ move during the 3rd quarter. With a smile, Curry replied that he also pulled out the ‘Night-Night’ in the 3rd quarter during an NBA Finals game. For the 3-Point Leader, pulling out the move is justified when “it’s just a moment where I had with somebody on the other side. Longer story”. Unfortunately, PJ Washington had to face the brunt, as he stole Curry’s actions some 11 games ago. On top of that, pulling out the ‘Night-Night’ was an indication that a new level of confidence had overtaken the player.
“That’s a reflection that, for sure, but I think what we’re doing right now, everybody playing with confidence, having fun, like usually for me, that’s when the….. like a front running type team when things are going great but you kind of have to manifest that while playing with joy, and then that feeds on itself” said Curry. “So, the confidence produces good play which allows you to have fun, and then you try to compete. Repeat that cycle as much as possible. Night-Night stuff is never really predictable, it’s just whenever I’m feeling it and you gotta be good to do it”.
Pulling out the Night-Night during the 3rd quarter is nothing short of diabolical. However, why waste the opportunity, when PJ Washington is still there? Back in February, the Mavericks secured a 111-107 win against the Golden State Warriors. As Washington walked back to the locker room, he hit the signature “Night Night” pose with his teammates. It’s important to know that that wasn’t the first time Washington had done so this season. If NBA fans learned something from ‘The Last Dance’, it is that you don’t poke the bear when he is down. Sure enough, Stephen Curry manifested his “And I took that personally” moment, and pulled out a revenge game. Took him 11 days of waiting, but it was quite satisfying in the end.
