For the past decade, Stephen Curry and Steve Kerr have been at the center of the Warriors’ dominance. As Curry’s legendary career winds down, Kerr recently reflected on what their future might look like. Even at 36, Curry remains the face of Golden State, leading the team just like he always has. His connection with Kerr has been a driving force behind the Warriors’ success.
With the 11x All-Star still playing at an elite level, the question of how much longer he’ll keep going is on everyone’s mind. Kerr made it clear that he wasn’t ready for this era to end anytime soon. “I would love nothing more than to coach Steph for the rest of his career because that’s what he means to me,” he told The Ringer.
But it looks like the 2x MVP is already ready to become a coach as we found out in Court of Gold; he’s coming in 2028 not as a player but as a coach. So you’d think he’d be churning out lethal shooters one after the other among the 29.73 million people who play basketball in the USA every year. But that’s not the case. “I would never teach anybody to shoot like me or Seth because we don’t have textbook form,” Curry admitted, appearing on The Greatest of Their Era podcast. “But feel and hand-eye coordination, spatial awareness—like, we’re elite at that. But it’s not pretty.”

“No, it’s not ideal at all,” he said before praising Thompson’s picture-perfect form. “Like Klay is, if that’s from scratch—if I’m like, this is how you’re supposed to shoot a basketball—that’s how you’re supposed to shoot the best. Like extension, high release, like it’s perfect. And he can do it all, different types of ways.”
Curry’s breakdown of shooting mechanics makes one thing clear—his skill set isn’t something that can just be taught. Even if he tried to coach someone into the next elite shooter, it wouldn’t be the same. The combination of feel, coordination, and instincts that make him great is unique. Klay’s form might be textbook, but Steph’s magic? That’s one of one.
But for now, his new teammate seems to have taken the reins of the Warriors.
There’s a new leader in Golden State, Jimmy Butler is replacing Stephen Curry
Jimmy Butler wasted no time making an impact with the Warriors. In a blowout win against the Kings, he took it upon himself to step into a coaching role during a timeout. Grabbing the clipboard from Steve Kerr, Butler broke down plays, hyping up teammates and calling out adjustments.
The cameras caught everything, and fans couldn’t get enough of the moment. It was unexpected, but it just proved how quickly Butler has embraced his role in Golden State.
His leadership isn’t just showing up in huddles. Since arriving before the trade deadline, Butler has been producing on the court, averaging 22.5 points in two games. Off the court, he’s already blended into the Warriors’ culture. Kerr acknowledged his presence, saying, “He’s right in the middle of the card games on the plane with Draymond [Green] and Steph [Curry]. There seems to be a lot of laughter in that locker room.”

The Warriors have also adjusted their strategy since Butler’s arrival. Running smaller lineups with Draymond Green at center and Butler at power forward, they’ve gained versatility on both ends. That shift helped them dominate Sacramento 132-108, improving their record to 29-27. Steph Curry, Moses Moody, and Brandin Podziemski all contributed to the win.
Kerr summed up Butler’s presence perfectly: “He’s a very charismatic guy… He just has a really good energy about him.” The Warriors brought him in for his toughness, but he’s already proving to be much more than that.
