Things are heating up in the DP World Tour this weekend! Some of the best in Europe are at the Muthaiga Golf Club for the 2025 Kenya Open. Two rounds of play have already been completed, and half the field has already been cut. The leaderboard is shaping up toward the final result, and John Parry is dominating it with a 14-under par 128 at the top. He is closely followed by Benjamin Hebert, who is only one stroke away. However, the two of them have a 4-stroke lead over anyone else on the field.
Shockingly enough, the defending champion, Darius van Driel, missed the cut by 1 stroke. However, the field still has many competitive stars who can rise to the occasion and challenge for the title in the last two days of the event. The 2024 Kenya Open was played for a purse of $2.21 million. However, this year, the event’s prize money has been increased to nearly $2.5 million. With a bigger pot to play from, each individual on the leaderboard will receive a larger payout.
According to GolfDigest, the winner of the 2025 Kenya Open will receive a whopping $425,000 prize money. Everyone in the top 5 will bag more than $100,000. Now that we know the prize money, let’s take a look at what has happened in the field so far.
Two rounds of thrilling action in Kenya
One of the highlights of the day was a young amateur player, Shashwat Harish, making his debut in the European circuit. Harish is only 15, and he stood strong in the first couple of rounds of the DP World Tour event. He managed 8 birdies in the 36 holes but had a few too many bogeys or worse to miss the cut. Yet, he showed glimpses of brilliance against a field of players much more experienced than him.
Going back to the top of the table, John Parry has had a faultless two days that have helped him rise the ranks. He has managed to card 14 birdies in two days and is going in strong into the penultimate round. Parry is no stranger to winning, as he captured the 2024 AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open a couple of months ago already.
Interestingly, Parry and Hebert also led the rankings at the end of the first round after they tied with an 8-under par 63. With fewer players on the course, all eyes will be set on these two to take it through to the final round and battle for the title.
