Jim Harbaugh is certainly focused on making the Chargers “Version 2.0” a success. The HC has been constantly involved in several discussions regarding changes that will take place in the team for the coming season. Well, it seems like an important change in the coaching staff has now been finalized. According to recent reports, the Chargers have decided on their new EDGE coach and, well, it doesn’t seem surprising.
According to sources, Harbaugh and the Chargers have decided to go with Dylan Roney. Roney joined the Chargers last season as a defensive assistant and seems on his way to being promoted to EDGE coach. According to a post shared by Matt Zenitz, the Chargers have taken that call. He shared, “The #Chargers are expected to promote Dylan Roney to be their new EDGE coach, sources tell @CBSSports/@247Sports. Comes after the 29-year old rising star was a leading figure for that edge rusher group as a defensive assistant this past season. Was a grad assistant at Michigan for three seasons before making the move to the Chargers last year.”

The Chargers might have ended their NFL season with a loss in the wildcard game, but the team showed real grit and promise the entire season. They had an 11-6 record and one of the main reasons behind that was their solid defense. It makes sense then that Harbaugh chose to promote someone from his existing squad rather than get someone new in. The only thing that will be interesting to see is how the youngster deals with being in such an important role in the team.
Well, while there is great news, there is also some sad news coming from the Chargers. It turns out that the Chargers have decided to part ways with one of their most experienced players, Joey Bosa. Bosa is one of the highest-earning players in the Chargers squad and it seems like they are looking to release him to make more funds available to them. The 29-year-old has a $13 million salary and will earn a $12.36 million roster bonus in March and that much free cap will certainly help the Chargers in bolstering their squad.
With Dylan Roney stepping into the role of EDGE coach, the Chargers are continuing their internal development strategy under Jim Harbaugh’s leadership. Meanwhile, the expected release of Joey Bosa marks a significant shift in the roster, potentially freeing up cap space for key reinforcements.
These moves highlight the team’s focus on both coaching stability and financial flexibility as they prepare for the upcoming season.
