$76M Star Targeted in Home Burglary While Appearing at 2025 MLB All-Star Game

Four weeks ago, a man hailing from Seattle faced charges for his link with consecutive burglary attempts at the homes of several current and retired professional athletes. Now, just some time later, the home of the Arizona Diamondbacks’ $76 million phenom fell victim to a similar case. While Tuesday night’s spotlight was on Truist Park for the 2025 All-Star game, a “high-dollar” burglary attempt struck Paradise Valley — this time, with Ketel Marte at the center of it.

Marte, the D-Backs second baseman, has made his third All-Star game appearance. He started for the National League, which clinched the eventual 7-6 win over the American League. He had every reason to be happy. It was a historic matchup that ended with a swing-off. And as NL won, Marte celebrated with his teammates until he was informed about the unfortunate news.

At the time when that Burglary took place, Marte could not have possibly imagined that something this tragic was happening miles away at his beloved home. No one was home, and that was one of the factors that boosted the burglar’s nerve to do this.

Scottsdale police are actively investigating right now. The sources say that there were multiple attempts at forceful entry, too. After the limited investigation that has been done until now, it has come to the revelation that multiple personal belongings and jewelry items went missing after the incident.

These robberies have spiked in recent months, with tragic incidents reportedly beginning back in February. Leesa Manion, King County Prosecuting Attorney, stated that these were consecutive attempts. “All people deserve to feel safe in their homes, and our office will continue to hold people accountable for criminal behavior.”

As a result, the FBI also sent a warning to various leagues. The idea was to give them a heads-up about these crime organizations that mainly target athletes. The NBA and NFL specifically took this in all seriousness and sent security alerts to their players.

After Ketel Marte’s case, the burglary patterns raises concern.

It was not a one-time incident that happened with a cruel twist of fate. It’s worrying given the number of times similar cases have unfolded in recent history. Repeatedly, athletes in and out of the baseball world have been targeted. Since last September, there have been more than 12 such break-in home invasions.

As for what Riley’s charging documents say, he has reportedly broken into houses of former Seahawks star Richard Sherman, Dodgers’ star Blake Snell, Mariners outfielder Julio Rodríguez, and pitcher Luis Castillo.

All the burglary attempts started in February, and after some time, Riley was held on $1 million bail. Apart from MLB stars, even the homes of Kansas City Chiefs stars Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce fell victim to burglary back in October. That time, the burglar was very calculative about his move, as the Chiefs were playing on Monday Night Football at that very same time.

The intruders reportedly stole luxury items, watches, and other valuable assets. Now, after Marte’s tragic incident, Scottsdale police are actively investigating. They are trying to find out the mastermind behind the series of these incidents.
