62-Year-Old Kim Mulkey Has Stopped Aging as LSU Insider Reveals Jaw-Dropping Fact

3 min read

Kim Mulkey is the only coach to win the NCAA tournament across multiple programs as a player, assistant coach, and head coach. She has four NCAA Division I championships to her name (three with Baylor and one with LSU). Not to forget her 11 conference tournament titles in her 4-decade coaching career. The LSU HC signed a historic 10-year, $32 million deal, which will run through June 2033. One can say there are no early retirement plans on her mind.

The Lady Tigers hosted a selection show watch party at the Pete Maravich Assembly Center. Naturally, Kim Mulkey was in attendance, and her action and the jacket stole the show! Cory Diaz of the USA Today Network highlighted when the jacket was used last, and even you will be shocked to find out.”This jacket Kim Mulkey is wearing tonight is the same jacket she wore in the 2005 Final Four.”

Yes, as per Diaz, the jacket is two decades old, and it is from the time when the California native was the coach for Baylor.“She was at Baylor and she was coaching against … you guessed it: LSU. So dope! #LSU.”

Apart from the jacket, her reaction from the night also made headlines. Not known for her over-the-top theatrics during selection shows, this one felt different. The Lady Tigers’ HC not only clapped, but threw her hands up and screamed as LSU’s name popped up on the screen. One other thing to note was how quickly her demeanor changed post-celebration. Within seconds, she was back in her seat while the squad was still standing and celebrating.

Looking back at Kim Mulkey’s four-decade coaching career

It all started at Louisiana Tech, where she first played under head coach Leon Barmore and won two national championships. Then, she proceeded with coaching endeavors under her coach at her alma mater prior to the 1985-86 season. Mulkey got her first chance as HC at Baylor in 2000. There, she had 17 straight NCAA tournament appearances as a coach. Her squads have won at least 21 games every season, 24 consecutive 20-plus win campaigns, and three championships.

For the Lady Tigers, the team now earned a No. 3 seed in four straight NCAA tournaments under Kim Mulkey. Now, their path to another Sweet 16 is set. Before the season, the 62-year-old spoke about her secret for managing the stress of work for 40 years. “I just have a lot of energy,” Mulkey said.

I think if you have the energy, you’re putting a product on the floor that is competitive and your is health is good? What else am I gonna do in life? I can only hang around my grandchildren for so long, they still have to go to school.” LSU has the talent in Flau’Jae Johnson and Aneesah Morrow, amongst others. There is no doubt that Kim Mulkey has the experience of the big game nights. Let’s see where the Lady Tigers finish the tournament under the tutelage of 4x champion coach.
