The black headband. The leg sleeves. The arm sleeves. Kahleah Copper’s WNBA game-day fit is practically iconic at this point. Her style, both on and off the court, always turns heads and often steals the spotlight. But, hey, even the most fashion-forward athletes aren’t immune to the occasional mishap! And tonight, it was Copper who fell victim to a classic wardrobe malfunction!
Kahleah Copper’s 2025 WNBA season has been anything but smooth. Knee and hamstring injuries have kept her sidelined for most of the year, limiting her to just 8 appearances. After averaging a career-best 21.1 points last season, her output has dipped to around 15 per game. But if you thought that was the biggest setback she’s had recently… you might want to think twice.
After three consecutive losses, the Phoenix Mercury finally won a game! It felt like ages since their last WNBA win, and while it was definitely worth it, it was something else involving Kahleah Copper that ended up stealing all the spotlight away from the impressive 88-72 win against the Mystics.
With roughly 3 minutes left in the 3rd quarter, Kahleah Copper was coming off a screen when Jade Melbourne accidentally pulled off her wig. Clearly caught off guard, Copper quickly made her way to the dressing room, wig in hand. An embarrassing moment that quickly became a meme on the internet.
The commentary from the quality announcing team of Meghan McPeak and Christy Winters Scott on reacting to Kahleah Copper having her wig accidentally pulled by Jade Melbourne was superb and fully understanding. #WNBA

To ease the awkward moment, WNBA broadcasters Meghan McPeak and Christy Winters Scott handled the situation with grace and respect. Rather than poking fun, they kept it professional and light. “Oh no, oh no, oh no, she gon’ go ahead to the back… oh no,” they said, letting the moment pass without throwing any shade at Copper.
Kahleah did make her return later in the game, but she couldn’t quite leave her mark the way she usually does. She finished with just 6 points on 2-of-8 shooting, went 0-for-3 from deep, and added 3 rebounds along with 3 assists. Not the performance she would’ve hoped for.
But this night was never going to be about her performance on the court. It was always going to be about that viral moment. And now, social media has taken things a step further by digging up one of her old tweets that’s quickly making the rounds online!
Kahleah Copper’s old tweet resurfaces after her viral WNBA moment
After missing the first 11 games of the 2025 WNBA season following a knee arthroscopy in mid-May, Copper’s year has been anything but smooth. Just six games into her return, a hamstring injury sidelined her again. But as tough as those injuries were, they might not compare to the wave of attention she’s now facing from that unexpected viral wig moment.
Fans are bumping a July 19 tweet of hers which said, “Everytime I cheat on my hairstylist bad things happen.” Well, looks like someone changed their hairstylist!
It remains to be seen when Kahleah Copper will get back to form this season. Injuries have stopped her from playing at full capacity in the W this season, and moments like tonight are only going to hurt her more. But superstars like the Mercury guard don’t give up easily. You can rest assured that she will be back sooner rather than later. What are your thoughts on this? Let us know in the comments down below!
