George Lamons Jr., one of the premier prospects in the 2027 class, has officially decommitted from Texas A&M. The 6-foot-4, 215-pound talent from Quitman, Georgia, had been committed to the Aggies since April 19, but his surprise move reopens one of the most intriguing recruitments in the country. Ranked No. 56 overall in the ESPN Junior 300 and the No. 2 tight end nationally, Lamons’ decision quickly stirred interest from several powerhouse programs.
Among those now in pursuit are Georgia, Georgia Tech, and LSU—programs that have been circling for months. ESPN’s Eli Lederman confirmed the news, tweeting, “Four-star 2027 TE George Lamons Jr., No. 56 in the ESPN Junior 300, has decommitted from Texas A&M. ESPN’s No. 2 TE in 2027 had been committed to the Aggies since April 19. Georgia, Georgia Tech, and LSU have been among the programs to enter the mix for Lamons in recent months.”
MaxPreps Sophomore All-American George Lamons Jr. caught 62 passes for 1,340 yards and 20 touchdowns — and that’s just part of what makes his case so compelling. That he’s ranked as a tight end but being recruited as a wide receiver by several top programs only adds to the intrigue. That kind of positional flexibility has schools rethinking how to maximize his elite frame and athleticism.

That Lamons can dominate whether split out wide or lined up tight to the formation makes him a true matchup nightmare. That Texas A&M just lost a weapon of his caliber leaves a major void in their 2027 class. And that Georgia, LSU, and Georgia Tech are already deep in the mix raises the stakes for everyone involved.
That Georgia offers the in-state edge, LSU brings firepower on offense, and Georgia Tech is building recruiting momentum—each gives Lamons a different reason to commit. But no matter which path he chooses, that commitment is going to ripple across the national recruiting scene.
This is a developing story…
