$24M Dodgers Star Gets Candid on Franchise’s Handling of His Early Season Slump

4 min read

Sometimes, we need to remember that at the end of the day, it’s just a game. Still, we can’t deny the emotions that run wild among the fans, can we? That’s why whispers of doubt start swirling in the air when a player is going through a slump. For the $24 million Dodgers star, it was as if he was hiding his face behind the curtains. A mere .180/.295/.236 without any home runs makes it clear why he was called the worst hitter in baseball this season. But bad times do not last forever!

Thanks to the Los Angeles Dodgers management, who trusted Max Muncy despite his struggles. The Dodgers kept him in their lineup without fail. Thankfully, he didn’t disappoint them. The turnaround came on April 30, when he hit his first home run of the season against the Miami Marlins, ending his no-home-run streak after 151 appearances. Maybe it was a sign that a storm was coming, wasn’t it?

The difference is clear now. Muncy’s batting average peaked at .221 with a .758 OPS. He has also hit nine home runs and driven in 35 RBIs, which is quite commendable. After proving his worth, Muncy praised the Dodgers and the manager for believing in him during an interview with Doug McKain. “It means everything to know you have the support of your coaching staff, your front office, and your teammates, and just seeing those guys every day trying to back you up,” he said.

Max Muncy told @DMAC_LA he’s grateful the Dodgers believed in him through his early 2025 struggles:

You can feel Muncy’s enthusiasm in his words. He talked about how the Dodgers’ management always tries to keep things positive—it’s not just for him, but for every other player going through a slump. They lifted spirit, and it’s just like, “You’ve got a big one coming; don’t worry.” The 34-year-old star was hitting the ball hard, but not getting the results he wanted. That’s when the Dodgers encouraged him to make more contact and reduce strikeouts—and it worked.

Muncy went on to become the eighth Dodgers player to hit 200-plus home runs, silencing all the whispers that surrounded him. Heaping praise on him, Dodgers general manager said, “Muncy has actually been pretty good for the last month or so… Our expectation is those guys are going to be a staple of the lineup for the rest of this season. His recent performance proved that the faith the team had in him was justified.

Now that the management seems quite happy with his performance, Muncy has revealed something that may raise eyebrows.

Dodgers’ Max Muncy reveals a personal decision behind his hot form

Once struggling to hit a single home run, Max Muncy has finally broken out of his drought. While it’s true that the Dodgers’ trust played a big role, Muncy revealed another reason behind his current success. Guess what?

Muncy used to have 20/12 vision, but after wearing the prescription glasses, he noticed an immediate difference. Not only did the glasses correct his astigmatism in the right eye, but he also hit the first home run of the season soon after. Ever since then, he hasn’t looked back.

“I mean, it’s hard to deny it. It’s one of those things where it’s not necessarily something that I need, but any chance at all that it evens out both eyes for me, I’ll take it,” Muncy said. It’s quite hard to digest the fact that just wearing new lenses could make such a difference.

But that’s been the case. Although the change isn’t massive, the new lenses have somewhat given him a more balanced vision. For Muncy, whose left eye had been straining for some time, the glasses took away that problem. It’s giving good results, and what more could he want?

Since Muncy started wearing the glasses in early May, he has hit nine home runs. His ability to strike the ball has improved, his walk rate remained good, and the strikeouts have been reduced, too. Whether the glasses worked like magic or not, if something appears to be helping him, why not keep it?
