20-Year-Old Track and Field Sensation’s Coach Breaks Silence After Teen Star’s Shocking Performance

The air might still be a bit electrified in the Cushing Stadium in College Station, Texas. Why? Because this 20-year-old track and field athlete is just keen on breaking records right and left! On May 30th, donning the classic Arkansas colored attire, he took to the track for 100 meters in the 2025 NCAA Division I West Regional Track and Field Championships. The man recorded the second fastest time at collegiate level in all conditions, clocking a time of 9.75 seconds with 2.1 m/s wind. But what does his coach have to say?

Well, tough day, tough meets back to back with SECs coming off that into this meet. They’re both the toughest meets of the year leading into NCAA. So he had a tremendous meet, that 9.75. I mean, it was a little windy, but not much,” said Arkansas men’s assistant coach Doug Case. The Razorbacks also lifted the 2025 Track and Field SEC championship, where our 20-year-old, Jordon Anthony, recorded the third fastest time of 2025 with a run of 9.95 seconds.

Further speaking of what pushed the young star to go for it, the coach pointed out that, “I think he got pushed out of the blocks. The kid on the outside of him really had a good start. And it kind of surprised him, and he had to actually run at the start of that race.” Taylor Banks of UNC had an explosive start, where he seemed to be toe to toe with the Razorback athlete, but Jordon pulled ahead. Banks finished second with a time of 9.91 seconds.

Doug continued, “So overall, just a tremendous job. His 200 was a cruiser, it was a little different race. And we had talked about it before he ran the 200, let’s go out there and just be top three and qualify, get yourself through to that next round.” And he did exactly what the coach said. Throughout the 200-meter quarterfinals, the 20-year-old track and field athlete was calm until the finish line got closer. He cruised around the curve and then shifted gears and finished second with a time of 20.20 seconds.

Xavier Butler took the win with a time of 20.02 seconds. Meanwhile, Anthony’s 100-meter performance has had him standing next to an Olympian.

Jordan Anthony is standing neck to neck with an Olympian

In 2015, Canadian sprinter Andre De Grasse etched his name into collegiate track and field history with a remarkable performance at the NCAA Championships in Eugene, Oregon. Representing the University of Southern California, De Grasse clocked a wind-assisted 9.75 seconds (2.7 m/s) in the 100 meters, marking the second-fastest all-conditions time ever recorded by a collegiate athlete. Following his 100m victory, he returned to the track to dominate the 200 meters, finishing in 19.58 seconds (2.4 m/s). This time stands as the fastest all-conditions 200m ever run by a collegiate athlete, further cementing his legacy in NCAA track and field history.

While his 200-meter legacy stands still, Jordan Anthony has challenged his 100-meter legacy with his 9.75 in the 2025 NCAA Division I West Regional Track and Field Championships. The fastest all-conditions 100m time in collegiate history is 9.69 seconds, achieved by Obadele Thompson of the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) on April 13, 1996, in El Paso, Texas. What do you think, given the form he is in, will Jordan Anthony break these records in the near future?
