10-Game Losing Streak Bruins’ Roster Update Fails to Cheer Boston Fans

4 min read

When bad luck prevails, nothing goes your way. Ask the Boston Bruins, who have had a tough 2024-25 season. While their playoff chances have evaporated, the Bruins are also on a 10-game losing streak, which is one of their worst runs in franchise history. Additionally, the nature of the defeats has been particularly disappointing for fans to watch, with the team looking sluggish and uninspired. Amid a tough run of results, the Bruins announced a fresh roster update, in the form of Fraser Minten, which didn’t go down well with some fans.

Minutes ago, the Bruins took to their official Twitter handle and announced the return of  Minten from the Providence Bruins. The 20-year-old, acquired as part of the trade deal with the Maple Leafs that saw Brandon Carlo heading to Toronto, was called from the AHL on an emergency basis, as the Bruins try whatever they can to end their losing streak.

Speaking of that losing streak, it’s not just one of the worst the franchise has seen, but it’s also dangerously close to breaking the record. Additionally, it’s the first time since the 2009-10 season that they’ve lost 10 on the bounce. Now one more loss will see them tie their worst ever losing streak, a streak they went on all the way back in the 1924-25 season. So it’s not just a matter of snapping the streak anymore; it’s a matter of pride, of not letting this current iteration of the Boston Bruins break the most ignominious of records set almost exactly a century ago.

So enter Fraser Minten. Minten has played 10 games in the AHL with the Providence Bruins and has scored three goals and four assists. But he also has the experience of playing in the NHL, having played 15 games with the Leafs. However, considering the position that the Boston Bruins are in right now, fans felt that it wasn’t the correct time to recall the youngster. As a result, the Bruins fans vented their frustration on social media.

Fraser Minten’s addition doesn’t go down well with Bruins fans

Boston currently sits at the bottom of the Atlantic Division, and going by their performances of late, it remains highly likely that they will finish there by the end of the season. Thus, Fraser Minten’s last-minute addition to the roster frustrated some fans. One of them wrote, “This team blows,” reacting angrily to calling up a 20-year-old when the entire team is in a downward spiral.

Similarly, some fans sympathized with Minten for what is set to come. “Poor guy,” an X user wrote, as Minten will join a bunch of players who are low on confidence after back-to-back defeats and nothing going their way. Meanwhile, another fan expressed some hope in the form of fresh energy that Minten can instill in the team. The fan commented, “Treat him well, Boston. Kid will be a solid player.”  However, he also called on the Bruins players to back Minten as he steps onto the ice to represent them.

Further, a section of fans thought that it was a bad idea to recall Minten from the AHL at this juncture. With just six games left in the season and the Bruins not in a good run of form, a fan questioned, “Um…do we really want to mess with this lineup right now. I mean we’re right on target…no?” The fan felt that Minten’s inclusion could upset the already fragile balance of the team.

Lastly, one fan had a brutal take on the Fraser Minten recall. He said, “Called up to what yall already a AHL team minus pasta anyways 10 losses in a row nice job Boston f**king embarrassing and I thought the rangers were bad …. Ffs.”  It was a scathing indictment of the Bruins, comparing them to an AHL-level team. The fan was completely displeased with the team recalling Minten to their roster at a time when the team was hardly doing anything right.

Nonetheless, now that Fraser Minten has been recalled, fans can hope for him to bring fresh energy to the team and somehow help end their losing streak. They next face the Carolina Hurricanes, and all eyes will be on the exciting 20-year-old prospect if he makes the team.
